We recently said goodbye to Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom, as the ride closed to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The new Princess and the Frog version of the attraction will open in 2024, so until then, we’ll be sharing construction updates to show the progress of the project. And here we are with news already about what’s taken place.
The day after Splash Mountain closed, the area was surrounded by construction walls. The water has started to be drained from the ride and we’ll be honest — it’s kind of weird to see the hill all bare like this. We’ve seen it in the past during Splash Mountain refurbishments, but it’s still odd for a water ride to have no water.

The same is true for the bottom of the ride. As you’re walking across the bridge to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, you’ll be able to see the bare bones of the ride.
No water here either!
The restrooms near the exit are still available, but currently, there’s a large green scrim attempting to hide the ride queue from view.

Splashdown Photos (the gift shop) is blocked off completely. Pretty much just bathrooms here now!

However, we could still see the queue from the Frontierland Station for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Not much has changed here yet, except for some small walls to block out guests.

Finally, we hopped on the train and headed through the tunnel above the ride’s grand finale scene. The giant window has been blocked off from view, so it’s hard to tell if demolition has started on this scene or not.

We’ve also seen some other changes already hit Disney World thanks to Splash Mountain’s closure, including:
- the removal of narration about Splash Mountain on the Liberty Square Riverboat
- changes to the Walt Disney World Railroad narration near Splash Mountain
- an update to the Magic Kingdom park map
