If there’s one thing Disney World has plenty of, it’s magical moments. Walking down Main Street, U.S.A., for the first time on your vacation, biting into a Mickey pretzel, taking off on Rock ‘n Rollercoaster, and watching fireworks at night are just a few of our favorites.
Today, we ran into one of our favorite details in the parks, and we wanted to tell you about it so that you know to watch out for it on your next vacation!
We were in Disney’s Hollywood Studios today when we came across this simple set-up in front of the Chinese Theater. On the ground, there’s a small box made out of tape, and 2 Cast Members were standing nearby. If you’re a seasoned Disney pro, you may already know where we’re going with this.
This is a clap box! But what exactly IS a clap box, you may ask? Well, any time a guest stands inside that square outlined in tape, the Cast Members will clap for them! Whether you stand there for a long time or just briefly walk through the box, you’ll get a little round of applause just for being in the right place at the right time.

Yes! When I was there last week it was at the front of the park. It was so much fun to watch. Even Donald and Daisy participated!

We saw one in Epcot last year, right between Port of Entry and Disney Traders!

Typical Disney, need more of these types of scheduled unscheduled encounters. It’s called Magic

For people who are sensory or crowd sensitive, it’s already a challenge to visit a park. So for us, this ‘special’ moment would be scary or at least make us feel like we’d done something wrong. It would not be magical. This is not the kind of magic we want (or used to happily get) from Disney. I definitely don’t like all these changes and I think Walt would agree! Many of them border on a lack of etiquette imo. That being said, I have never experienced this and others you’ve featured on your blog as special, impromptu moments by cast members. In fact, too any of our recent cast member experiences have, sadly, been less than stellar or professional which I blame on a lack of training and/or a generational lack of how they were brought up. Baby boomers like me are definitely feeling kicked to the curb more and more, especially at wdw 🙁
