Ah, Gideon’s Bakehouse. With its MASSIVE cookies, delicious cakes, unique cold brew coffee drinks, and spooktacular atmosphere, the spot has made a big name for itself in the Orlando area.

Gideon’s Bakehouse currently has an “OG” location at East End Market in Orlando, as well as their Disney Springs location, but what if there were MORE Gideon’s Bakehouse locations in the future fueling your sweet treat needs? The founder of this spot has discussed expansion plans before and now we’ve got another update!

Back in 2022, at the IAAPA Expo, Steve Lewis (the founder of Gideon’s Bakehouse) discussed potential expansions for Gideon’s. While it didn’t sound like any of those plans would include an exact repeat of Gideon’s Bakehouse, it did sound like some new things could be in the works.

Lewis shared, “One of the things for me with the stores — let’s say I were to do another Gideon’s — it would have to be a creative challenge…It would never just be I’m taking this concept of Gideon’s Bakehouse and putting it over here. That doesn’t appeal to me at all.”

Gideon’s Treats

But Lewis shared that there could be “sister stores” or spin-off concepts. He said, “What you might see moving forward is more sister store things with Gideon’s that are the characters going out from the family and doing their own thing.” The “characters” he referred to are key to Gideon’s, often introduced with new cookie flavors.

Lewis even hinted that a sister store might NOT be about cookies. But that update was from back in November, so what does Gideon’s Bakehouse have to say about potential expansion plans now? Well, we’ve got some more details.

Gideon’s Bakehouse

In a post shared via Instagram, Gideon’s Bakehouse discussed a bit more about potential other locations. In discussing shipping and why the store does NOT ship its cookies, they noted how Gideon’s is a small local business and has “no backers.”

⁣Gideon’s Bakehouse (with presumably Lewis writing this message directly as he does) shared, “I will not franchise and be yet another cookie place in every other shopping plaza in your town.” So if you were hoping for Gideon’s Bakehouse locations to pop up at your local mall, you might need to send those dreams packing.

OH YUM

The post continued, “Getting all your monies doesn’t motivate me. I’d rather be sure your experience is the best we can make it, and that won’t happen by spreading myself too thin or letting in development partners.”

But then things did get a BIT exciting. He shared, “Maybe someday, a third location somewhere interesting, but I’m careful with my baby. Thank you for understanding the vision for this little place.”

Alright, so at least there’s a bit of hope for a “third location somewhere interesting.” It seems like this could be a third location of Gideon’s Bakehouse itself, rather than a sister store (as Lewis had discussed previously). Still, the post really doesn’t go into many details, so anything is possible!

So Much to Choose From

The post concludes, “For those living outside of Florida, the anticipation for your next visit grows within us both because we can’t wait to see you again. xoxo”

So that’s our update for now! Based on the 2022 IAAPA presentation, it seems like some spin-off expansion concepts for Gideon’s Bakehouse (“sister stores”) have been in the works and could go beyond the realm of cookies. But Lewis’ latest Instagram post may also serve as a glimmer of hope that a third Gideon’s Bakehouse spot “somewhere interesting” could also be a possibility.
