It’s a tale as old as time — the battle of who has the best snacks: Disney World or Disneyland?

Sure, you can get churros, pretzels, Dole Whips, and more snacks on both coasts, but does that mean they’re all created equally? There’s only one way to find out, so come with us as we check out some tasty treats from The Tropical Hideaway in Disneyland!

You’ll find The Tropical Hideaway located in Disneyland Park, over in Adventureland — tucked on the tropical shores between the Jungle Cruise and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Guests can also enjoy an array of treats both savory and sweet — and we’re trying a smorgasbord, starting with Lime Chicken Bao Buns!

These are filled with lime chicken, butternut squash, and fresh herbs for $6.49. We were blown away by how much flavor this had! There was a strong lemongrass flavor that blended nicely with the sweetness of the butternut squash. They were on the lighter side, and we probably could have eaten about fifty of them — they were that good!

We also grabbed the Loco Moco Bao, which was one of the specials when we stopped by. You’ll often find different bao on the menu here depending on when you’re there! This one combines spiced ham with ground beef, egg, and mushroom gravy for a twist on the Hawaiian dish Loco Moco.

We’ve tried this one in the past and really enjoyed it, and this time was no different. There were a few chewier pieces of meat, but the flavors were excellent though maybe not as fresh tasting as the Lime Chicken Bao. The best part was probably the gravy served on the side for dipping!

You know we can’t visit a Dole Whip spot without getting one or two of the classic snacks, and we started out with the Pineapple Dole Whip for $6.49. 

We know what you’re thinking — you can get Pineapple Dole Whip at Disney World too, so what’s the big deal? Well, while the flavors tasted exactly the same — very pineappley, sweet, and cold — the texture was much different. It was a bit creamier than the versions we’ve had at Disney World, but word on the street is that they’re exactly the same!

But, what we DON’T have in Disney World (and are deeply upset about) is the Chile Mango Whip! It’s made with Pineapple and Mango Swirl Dole Whip, Chamoy, Mango, and Chile-Lime seasoning for $8.49. We also spotted some cucumber chunks on there as well!

WOW. This is something we’ve had in Disneyland before, and we remember exactly why we love it every time. The mango flavor was subtle, but tasted natural and not artificial. The chile-lime seasoning on the rim was such a great contrast to the sweetness of the soft serve.

If you’re not looking for a sweet AND spicy snack, you can probably skip this particular Dole Whip — but we think it still holds up as one of the BEST variations we’ve ever had!
