With the opening date for TRON: Lightcycle/Run being just a little over a month away, Disney has nearly completed Cast Member previews for the new attraction. We’ve already found out so much of what we can expect from the ride — from the insane speed and the amazing theming, to the difficulties we may encounter when trying to experience the attraction.
With the conclusion of Cast Member previews, Disney started registration for Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members and Annual Passholders on February 16th. Of course, we expected these spots to be very limited, and we know how badly everyone is dying to get on this new ride! After all, it’s one of the fastest coasters in any Disney park in the world!
DVC and Annual Passholder previews for TRON Lightcycle / Run SOLD OUT in less than a day! This was likely due to both super limited availability and overwhelming numbers of DVC members and Annual Passholders competing for these spots.
Those slots filled up FAST! Unfortunately, many DVC members didn’t even have a chance to sign up for the previews, as the emails with information about registering were sent in waves and not everyone got the email before the previews filled up.
Those of us who didn’t get a slot will just have to keep patiently waiting for the ride’s opening date. On April 4th, you’ll find us entering The Grid and racing by on this 59-mile-per-hour coaster.
Remember that there will NOT be a standby line offered when TRON Lightcycle / Run opens on April 4th. You’ll have to either join the virtual queue (using the My Disney Experience app) or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane (pay-per-ride) to skip the line and board the coaster. Note that Individual Lightning Lanes are not included with Genie+, so even if you buy Genie+ for your Magic Kingdom day, you’ll have to pay extra to get at TRON Lightning Lane.
Those Lightning Lanes can sell out quickly, so make sure you’re ready to buy them as soon as they become available on the day of your trip. Guests staying at Disney-owned and operated hotels, The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, and Shades of Green at Walt Disney World Resort are able to purchase their first Individual Lightning Lane at 7AM each day. Guests staying offsite will be able to purchase their first selection when the park opens.
We’re so excited for this fun new coaster to debut to guests at Disney, but there are a few things you should know before you ride — such as what you can expect, how to join the virtual queue, height requirements, and more. Keep following DFB for more updates on this new coaster.

I think Disney still has some surprises up its sleeve to be revealed before April 4th. As of now, no previews are scheduled for the week immediately preceding the official opening day, and I find it hard to believe that they will just let it sit there closed and unused for that period. I predict another preview or special event announcement for the final week of March, or perhaps an unannounced soft opening period in the days leading up to its official opening.
