Disney World is still not entirely back to its pre-pandemic self, but little by little the place we know and love is returning to its former glory.
Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort was a popular dining spot for families because of their buffet service and fun character dining. When the parks re-opened in 2020, both of those aspects were removed. Both the characters and buffet have RETURNED, but a major price increase has now hit the restaurant.
Chef Mickey’s buffet service is officially back as of today! Previously the restaurant had been serving food family style, where tables shared a prix fixe menu and guests could order more of any item they’d like. Now, this restaurant brought back its original buffet service, which made this spot a popular choice for both the Contemporary’s resort guests and others visiting the Resort.
While there is some controversy surrounding the buffet’s return, there’s one more change that might bring about even more contention. Today, pricing for Chef Mickey’s has also been updated. When they were serving their dishes family style, adults could dine for $45 at breakfast and for $60 at dinner. Now, breakfast is $51 per adult and dinner is $62. Likewise, prices for kids have raised. Children used to be able to eat for $29 each at breakfast time and $38 at dinner, and now breakfast service is $33 per child and dinner is $39.
This restaurant has generally been a very popular spot, especially because you can meet the Fab Five while you enjoy your meal! I’m beginning to believe that Disney raising prices on everything is their way of crowd control. The more they raise prices the less people will show up.

So now with tax and tip, breakfast for a family of four will be $200? Seriously? This is ridiculous and I sure wish people would stop paying these exorbitant prices!

The lemmings will continue to flock to the edge of the cliff and jump to their demise for that $51 plate of bacon and eggs with a side of Mouse, won’t they? Talk about positive reinforcement to make that breakfast $75 next summer.
There’s just no end to the magic!
Rumpelstiltskin, aka Mr. Gold, in Once Upon a Time (a Disney+ series, ironically enough) summed it up when he said on more than one occasion,
“Magic has its price, Deary!”
Get hooked on that series if you haven’t seen it; I would stand there watching, planning to walk away, and next thing you know, I’m waitin’ with the family for the next episode to drop.
