We won’t even ask because we bet many of our readers own at least one Disney Funko POP! figure, if not more!
Funko POP! figures have been so trendy for those of us who like the little collectibles, especially when we can get figures of characters from our favorite movies, our favorite Disney Parks rides, and even our favorite Marvel superheroes. Of course, Funko has other collectibles, too, including games, backpacks, and accessories. But is Funko fever finally fading? Well, the answer could be “yes.”
According to NPR, Funko plans on throwing away $30 million worth of its inventory. Why? Well, the company can’t afford to hold onto all the inventory it’s made. Demand has gone down for the little figures and its current inventory is SO full that Funko is renting storage containers to store all the excess.
Funko said that by the end of last year, its inventory totaled $246 million worth of product — soaring 48% percent from a year earlier. In Q4, the company reported a loss of nearly $47 million — the year before, the company reported a $17 million profit.
Funko is also implementing other cost-saving measures, in addition to dumping inventory. This will include a 10% cut in its workforce.
So does this mean the end of Funko POPs? Well, according to toy consultant Juli Lennett, with NPD Group, this news comes as a surprise. She told NPR, “I was a bit surprised because the collectible market is one of the big stories for 2022. Collectibles were up 24%. … Funko, of course, is the biggest player in that space.”
Some analysts have suggested that the excess Funko inventory be donated or sent to small comic book shops that could use the revenue. Funko hasn’t exactly said HOW it plans on dumping the inventory, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details. Stay tuned to DFB for more!

Mike says
Donate them to childrens hospitals. Give the poor kids some excitement instead of wasting the toys
Elaine says
Why not donate those Funko pops to charity, like a hospital, a cancer center for children, a rescue mission, to churches that give out Christmas baskets, to toys for tots, to the needly, to the homeless, or just give them to me I’ll make sure needly people will get them. Don’t throw them away. I am sure there are people out there that can’t afford to buy things that you could donate them to someone in need.
Andreas says
I really hope it’s not going out. I love funko pops. I started collecting them with my step son, just buying them for him. I started really getting into them and started buying for myself as well. Now he has about 500 and i have a lil over a 1000. They are just really cool!!
Lyn says
OVERKILL. They FUNKO everything and wonder why people are over it. Donating won’t increase their profits but dropping the prices might. If they still don’t sell then yes donate them. Many countries have Special Christmas Parties, where toys are donated, they could help out there.
Rob says
Or they could sell them for really cheap and still make money instead.
Deann says
Donate to Toys for Tots. Children Hospitals. I’m sure the kids will enjoy them. I know Toys for Tots has been running short with toys.
Melanie Durham says
I’m changing my name to “charity”. Please donate to your favorite, ahem, “charity”!
I love love love Funkos !!!!
Jessy says
I love funkos and wish I could buy more. Unfortunately, I am a single parent in debt. It would be nice if they did donate the funkos!! There are so many out there that would love to collect them!!
Sabrina says
Unfortunately, I’m not really surprised! The quality of the figurines has increased a lot over the years but they also keep creating stuff collectors couldn’t care less about instead of focusing on series people have been waiting for a long time. We see it a lot in Funko fans groups and pages. If they listened to what the collectors want and like, they’d stop creating dozens of figurines based on the same mold or try new series like the ugly chocolate ones that came out lately.
