Listen, keeping up with Walt Disney Imagineering is a full-time job in itself!
It’s safe to say that the Imagineers lead the entertainment and theme park industry with their creativity and innovative ideas, from the creation of the Disney parks, to the massive Disney Cruise Line ships, to the technology used to film fan-favorite Disney movies. Going behind the scenes of Imagineering is so special, and it’s great to know the driving forces behind the team.
Disney just shared that Bruce Vaughn will be returning as Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of Walt Disney Imagineering, effective March 20th, 2023. He will then head the company alongside Walt Disney Imagineering President Barbara Bouza. This duo will oversee the Imagineering team under Josh D’Amaro, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman.
D’Amaro sent in an email to Imagineers, “With significant developments under way and more on the horizon, this dedicated focus toward creativity and innovation will help us deliver next-level experiences well into the future.”
Vaughn seems to be well equipped for this job, as he previously served in this role for nine years before resigning in 2016 to create and lead Dreamscape Immersive, a virtual reality experience company. Shortly after, he joined Airbnb as Vice President of Experiential Creative Products, where he designed ways to heighten the Airbnb experience.
Vaughn told Disney, “I’ve remained an Imagineer at heart, so I’m thrilled to join Barbara and reunite with this phenomenal global team of creators and innovators during this pivotal time.”
Numerous changes are underway within the Walt Disney Company, as we learned during Disney CEO Bob Iger’s quarter one earnings call for fiscal 2o23. From a vast company restructuring to a new shift in focus to the world of streaming and movie production, we’d say “pivotal time” is a great way to put it.

Hopefully this might mean creativity will return to Disney. It has been sorely lacking in the last several years!!!

Typical big company. Refuse to pay the people on the ground what they are worth, then stack the head of the monster instead. So much for cutting corporate jobs.

The imagineers after 2000 do not compare with the imagineers pre-2000. Compare the accomplishments and ground breaking achievements and you will agree.
