Do you guys remember the glory that was Disney Kitetails?
The limited-time show ran in the Discovery River Amphitheater at Animal Kingdom for the 50th Anniversary, but it was cut short and canceled in September 2022. KiteTails wasn’t without its technical difficulties (sometimes the kites took a nosedive into places they weren’t supposed to), but it was also a really fun addition to Animal Kingdom that could easily fit into your day’s plans. We’ve been mourning its loss since last fall, but now Disney seems to be “mocking” our pain!
On a regular visit to Animal Kingdom recently, we noticed that the Disney Kitetails popcorn buckets are STILL in stock at select carts near Asia and Dinoland, U.S.A. Either they ordered way too many buckets, or they intended this show to last a lot longer than it did!
For $14 you can get the 50th Celebration Rainbow Popcorn in a KiteTails bucket as your souvenir. The bucket features Mickey and friends watching the show with kites inspired by The Lion King and The Jungle Book soaring above their heads. Man, just looking at it is like salt in the wound!
So if you’re interested in snagging one of these buckets as a relic of the past, you may want to hurry! We’re not sure how much longer they’ll be around or if they’ll stay at the carts after the 50th Anniversary celebrations end on March 31st. Kitetails stans unite!

I can only hope that this popcorn bucket has a weaker handle construction so occasionally the bucket crashes into the ground, just like the “landing” of the kites.
