Disney CEO Bob Iger has a couple of very important jobs right now. One is restructuring the Walt Disney Company. Another (and this one’s a biggie) is to find someone good to take his spot. OH, and he needs to do all of this within two years.
Alright, Disney CEO Bob Iger has got to be under some serious pressure right now! Many Disney fans were excited when he returned to the company in November 2022, but keep in mind that Iger only agreed to two years in this role. This only leaves Disney fans and stakeholders to wonder… who is going to take his place?
Bob Iger spoke at a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference to discuss the company’s approaches to streaming, sports betting, park profits, and of course — succession.
“For me,” Iger said, “coming back was quite actually an interesting experience because it was clear that the Company needed to be stabilized, it was clear that the reorganization was necessary because of the disconnect … between spending and revenue generation and marketing, and it was also clear that we had to come to grips with our cost structure for a variety of reasons.”
While Iger says he is confident that he will leave in two years with Disney on a positive trajectory, it’s very important that his successor is able to maintain the momentum that Iger is hoping to create during his second time around as CEO.
“Succession is pretty much at the top of the list between me and the Board. In fact, we have a succession committee at the Board.”
Iger said that the succession committee, led by Mark Parker, meets regularly and doesn’t take this decision lightly, but that it respects the fact that the decision needs to be made soon.
“I’m confident that we’ll identify the right successor at the right time,” Iger said. “We have stability, we have reorganization, we have truly aggressive cost-cutting efforts. Now it’s about getting our content pipeline right, making sure that we’re making the right decisions, and making sure that we’re making the right number of decisions in terms of how much we’re making,” he explained.
It’s evident that the CEO feels confident in the future success of this company and the transition that will take place between him and his successor. Personally, I’m disappointed in Bob Iger’s return. The changes or accomplishments are almost non-existent.
There is far too much focused on Disney streaming. The parks should prevail and should return to their glory. The parks have been downgraded from magical theme parks to just amusement parks.
It’s time to end the LEXUS LANES for money and bring back FAST-PASS. Walt Disney himself said we were all equal as guests in Disney parks.
