TRON Lightcycle / Run has officially OPENED in Disney World!
We had a chance to experience the ride and have already given you ALL the details about what we thought about it, how the locker system works, and more. The ride does NOT have a standby line and only uses a virtual queue, or you can purchase a paid Individual Lightning Lane. Now we have a HUGE update about the TRON ride’s virtual queue.
Guests can sign up for the virtual queue for TRON / Lightcycle Run twice a day — at 7AM and 1PM. This is standard with what we’ve seen when other new rides opened in Disney World. You can try and grab a boarding group for the ride at those two times (warning: spots in the virtual queue run out FAST).
However, select Disney World guests can get a third opportunity to sign up for a TRON / Lightcycle Run boarding pass. Those guests who can take part in Extended Evening Hours (guests who are staying at a Disney World deluxe resort, deluxe villa resort, or other select hotels) can try to grab a boarding group at 6PM on nights when the Extended Evening Hours take place in Magic Kingdom.
Note that these guests do NOT have to physically be in Magic Kingdom to request a virtual queue, but they must have a valid ticket and a park pass reservation for Magic Kingdom on that day OR have a valid park hopper ticket and have already entered a park with a park pass reservation earlier that day.
Note that Extended Evening Hours only happen on select nights. For the month of April, Extended Evening Hours in Magic Kingdom are on April 5th, April 12th, April 19th, and April 26th from 10PM-Midnight. These are generally on Wednesdays, so you can use that information to plan ahead. Extended Evening Hours in May are on May 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 10PM-Midnight. Remember that Extended Evening Hours are only open to guests at certain Disney World hotels — see the full list of qualifying hotels HERE.
We imagine that it might be a lot easier to get a boarding group for the virtual queue at the 6PM time compared to the 7AM and 1PM times (since fewer people will be trying to join the queue then), so if you have access to Extended Evening Hours, that might be the best way to plan on riding it. The earlier virtual queues are pretty tough to get into, and the Individual Lightning Lane options sell out fast.

No, you can only join the 6pm Virtual Queue on nights when there are extended hours and you are staying at a participating resort.
