TRON Lightcycle / Run has finally opened in Magic Kingdom — sort of!
After Disney previously announced the new coaster would open on April 4th, they surprised us with a “soft opening” between March 20th and April 2nd! We’re one step closer to the official opening of TRON, and now you can book reservations for an exciting interactive experience!
It’s time to step into the Grid with a brand-new experience in Magic Kingdom! Over at Tomorrowland Launch Depot (what used to be Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.), guests will be able to transform themselves with the TRON Identity Program!
You’ll be able to customize a “Program” action figure that looks and sounds like you and an identity chip that will interact with other merchandise as well! This includes the Identity Discs and Remote Control Lightcycles.
Disney shared that guests will “enter the Grid through a Grid Digitization Portal located in Tomorrowland Launch Depot”. Using Image Capture to scan your facial features, you’ll customize the action figure and then choose a helmet and body configuration. After that, you decide if you want to be an Enforcer, Combatant, Scout, or Heavy Sentry, and then choose a team color.
Once those decisions have been made, you’ll head to Command Input to record 6 lines of dialogue. Disney notes that it will take about 20 minutes to make these selections and then another 60 minutes for your figure to be ready.
If this sounds like something you and your travel party might be interested in, head over to the Disney World website because reservations are open now for dates beginning on April 4th! The cost is $89.99 plus tax, and there are some other important details you might want to know:
- Payment will be due upon arrival at the location.
- One action figure per User per experience.
- Packaging included.
- Additional customizable items can be purchased at Tomorrowland Launch Depot.
- Recommended age is 5 years and older.
- The experience area is limited to the User and one Guest—at least one person in the party must be age 14 or older.
- A Guest accompanying the participant may not customize their own figure, unless they have a separate reservation.
- Customizable action figures are nonrefundable and are not eligible for Annual Passholder (or other) discounts.
- This experience is separate from TRON Lightcycle / Run. The purchase of a TRON Identity Program does not include admission or priority access to the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction.
When we booked, it only allowed us to make 1 reservation at a time — so keep that in mind if you’re looking to have this experience as a group!
