We have waited almost five years for the opening of TRON / Lightcycle Run since it started construction!
So, we were more than a little happy when it was announced that there would be a soft opening before its official opening on April 4th, 2023. We’ve already taken a ride on the grid during a preview event, but now guests can hop on and test out this coaster before it opens next month. But if you’re planning to ride it soon, there’s something we need to WARN you about!
TRON has already been running for a few weeks, with test runs, Cast Member Previews, Annual Passholder and DVC Member Previews, and even special Media Event days. So seeing the canopy all ablaze at night and hearing that familiar whirr of the lightcycles coast past has become part of Tomorrowland.
So it surprised us to learn that the coaster would be closing EARLY, at 6:30PM today, March 28th. TRON is still in its soft opening phase, and its hours and availability may change from day to day to assess, calibrate, and evaluate.
If you’re planning to visit Disney World before April 4th and hoping to ride TRON during your visit, keep an eye on DFB and the My Disney Experience app, as operating times for TRON may change from day to day. Currently, the webpage for this coaster is only showing operating times for today, and it seems to be updated on a daily basis, so we can’t tell yet what the hours will be for upcoming days. And with any highly technical ride, like TRON and Rise of the Resistance, it may experience some downtime if it experiences a hiccup or needs a quick refresh.
UPDATE: TRON Lightcycle / Run shows operating hours until 9PM on March 29th, which is later than its 6:30PM closure on the 28th but still two hours earlier than Magic Kingdom’s closure at 11PM.
Even if the ride’s operating hours are showing that it’s closed before your boarding group is called, keep an eye on the app and head over to the ride to find out whether it’s still running. In our experience, the coaster sometimes remains open after the closing time shown online, but of course, this may vary day-to-day.
On Disney’s website, it looks like TRON’s operating hours match Magic Kingdom’s hours once it officially opens on April 4th. Starting on that day, we’re expecting TRON to be open all day in this park, so the issue of it closing early appears to only affect the soft opening.
Keep checking back with DFB for all of the latest updates on TRON and all of the Disney parks so none of these quirky changes take you by surprise!
