If you’ve been to Disney World, you’re probably already familiar with MagicBand+ technology.
Not only can you use MagicBand+ to unlock your hotel room, pay for purchases, and scan into parks, but you can also use it to interact with elements like fireworks shows inside the parks. Well, a very similar technology will soon be available on Disney Cruise Line.
Disney Cruise Line is introducing DisneyBand+, which is basically a MagicBand+ you can use on Disney cruises. It will allow cruisers to unlock their stateroom doors as well as pay for purchases.
Kids will be able to use their DisneyBand+ to access kids’ clubs on the ship, like the Oceaneer Club and Scuttle’s Cove at Castaway Cay. They can use the new band instead of the Oceaneer Club band.
DisneyBand+ can also be used with PhotoPass photographers on the ships to link those photos to their stateroom, making it easy to view and purchase photos.
DisneyBand+ will also interact with elements on the ship, much like MagicBand+ interacts with elements in Disney parks.
Okay, so this is where things get confusing because you WILL be able to use both DisneyBand+ and MagicBand+ on Disney Cruise ships. So if you already have a MagicBand+ that you love, you can bring that along instead of buying a new DisneyBand+, and it will work, too.
You can’t buy a DisneyBand+ just yet, though, but guests on select Disney Wish sailings this summer “will be able to order a DisneyBand+ by visiting My Reservations between 11 and 45 days of their sail date” if paid in full. Those who purchase a DisneyBand+ in advance will also get a $10 discount.
Key to the World Cards will still be available to cruisers who want them and they will still work aboard ships.
Finally, you can reuse DisneyBand+ on Disney Cruise Line, but at the moment, the technology will only be available on the Disney Wish. However, it will be eventually rolled out for other ships and sailings.
