Think you know everything there is to know about Hotel Refillable Mugs in Disney World? Well, if you’re forgetting this important rule, you could be making a HUGE mistake.
For those not familiar with them, a Hotel Refillable Mug is a 16 oz. insulated coffee mug that you can buy if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel. Once you buy one, you’ll get unlimited free refills on fountain drinks, coffee, and tea from participating beverage locations for your length of stay, up to 14 days. But there’s an important rule about these mugs that everyone seems to forget!
Let’s say you’ll be staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort during your trip, and you buy your mug there. But then you decide to walk over to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort for dinner. Can you fill up your refillable mug at another hotel for free, or are you stuck only getting refills from the hotel you’ll be staying at?
Well, we’ve got good news — you can refill your mug throughout your stay at ANY participating Disney World hotel beverage station, even if you aren’t staying there!
This is great for so many reasons. Maybe you’ll be spending an entire day, afternoon, morning, or even just a few hours hotel hopping to explore the beauty, restaurants, and merchandise of Disney World’s many hotels.
Hop as much as you want and bring that refillable mug with you so you can keep refilling it as you go along! You will NOT need to pay for a new mug at the other Disney World hotels or pay any kind of fee.
This is also a great benefit for those doing a split stay — staying at one Disney World hotel for part of the trip and then spending the rest of their vacation at a different Disney World hotel. There’s no need to buy more refillable mugs at your second hotel (unless you just want more of them!). Your refillable mug can be refilled at ANY participating Disney World hotel beverage station throughout your length of stay (up to 14 days).
Mugs can essentially be used and refilled at any Disney-owned hotel on property.
If you haven’t been to Disney World for a loooooooong time, this might be a change for you or something you didn’t know about. Individual hotels used to have their own mug designs back in the day. Now, the mugs typically feature standardized designs across the hotels and their usage isn’t limited to the hotel you’re staying at.
But there are some limitations to be aware of. You can’t use your refillable mug in Disney World’s theme parks (unless you’re getting water). And while there are refillable mugs at Disney’s water parks — Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon — these are a separate purchase. These have their own unique design and shape.
Another thing to keep in mind is that each self-service refillable mug location has a MUG WASH! That can come in handy when switching between your drinks of choice.
And that’s the basics of the important refillable mug rule that people usually forget about. If you buy a mug during your vacation, be sure to take it around with you as you travel to the other Disney World hotels and take advantage of those free drink refills.

I use my mug all of the time at home. It’s a fun way to take coffee on the go!
Tiffany says
Can you also refill them at Typhoon Lagoon? I remember buying one there in the past and using their filling stations.
DFB Gigi says
No, unfortunately.
laura denison says
We don’t drink a ton of soda so in 2021 we didn’t get, then I learned you can also use for coffee so in 2022 we got and used daily it was great!!!!!!
phillysub1 says
I always get a mug when I’m down there for my morning coffee. Since I usually have a stay around 14 days, the mug pays for itself.
Tim Heddle says
An you buy these if you’re not staying at a Disney hotel? Just for the souvenir?
Matt says
can you use a refillable mug like that to request water when you’re in the parks?
Tamara says
When I was at DW in December ‘22, the “unlimited” refills could only be filled once every 24hrs and was timed out at Pop Century. Has this changed to unlimited?
June says
We always fill our mug before going to our room at end of day.
DFB Gigi says
That’s so odd, Tamara. I was able to fill mine multiple times a day when I stayed there in 2022. We always filled it before leaving for the parks and again when we returned.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Matt! They won’t fill the mug up for you, but you can get cups of ice water and transfer it into your mug if you want to carry it around that way.
Patty says
If I’m stay at the Swan can I purchase a mug at the Yacht Club and get refills for my stay? We usually grab breakfast at the quick serve there and it would be great to fill up with coffee each morning.
Pat says
What is the price of the new 100 anniversary mug? Same as other mugs?
TIna says
I think I can see a “water” button as a selection but wondering if there’s just a plain ole “selzer” button at the hotels? I know sometimes it’s a tiny button on the side.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Patty! You could, but you would have to go back to the Yacht Club for all the refills since the Swan isn’t owned by Disney Resorts.
Keith says
We just got back from a stay at Port Orleans-Riverside and was told they could only be used at that resort. This is good information to know. Thanks DFB
Phyllis Fricks says
We bought the good forever mugs when the Pop Century first opened. Now you can’t use them. Doesn’t seem fair to be told good forever,,,,, how long is good forever to Disney?
Jenn Night says
You can bring them Year after year and refill them with tea, hot or cold, coffee or hot chocolate. Those don’t use a chip. I also brought a mug from March back in May and could refill it from the fountain. It’s always worth a try. Restaurants will refill it for you before you leave as well.
Eloni says
Going to Universal instead of Disney this year and they have refillable mugs inside the parks. Like every other theme park in America except Disney parks.
Lourie says
We were there in 2021 and tried to refill at several other resorts and none of them would work. Not sure what the problem was but we were kind of disappointed. Ended up having to purchase a drink.
Julie says
With a split stay they work for both stays? Really? We have a split stay for two days at first, and then switch for the next one is 12 days. Both on site. I figured we’d have to wait till we check in the second part of our split stay to buy mugs, or they would only work for two days. Length of stay trumps the 14 days right?
Amanda says
Can you buy a mug even if you are not staying at the resorts to use while Hotel hopping to see Christmas Decorations?
Simon says
At Aulani, you can also use your old mugs for free refills. So if you come more often, it is definitely a great deal.
DFB Gigi says
Hi Amanda! You can absolutely buy a resort mug if you’re not staying on property. 🙂
DFB Gigi says
Hi Julie! Yes, you’ll be able to use the mugs for the length of your stay, even if you’re doing a split stay. If at any point they give you any issues, just let a CM know and they can reactivate it if they need to.
ScroogeMcDad says
What if I am split-staying off resort in the middle of my trip? (2 days on Property/3days Universal/3days back on Property) Can we just buy the 14 days and it will cover both Disney stays?
DFB Gigi says
Yes! You will be able to use the same mug for your split stay.
Syd says
Strange that Tamara I stayed on park and it was fine filled up. No problem
The only problem we had was we weren’t leaving till 5 pm when we went to fill our cups in the morning and it wouldn’t let you So asked the cashier and he just activated it again to work that day
Brandon says
I’m glad they finally began posting signs about which beverages are included in the refill mug program.
Prior to the signs being posted I always thought I was breaking the rules when I’d grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate.
Barry says
As soon as you put the mug in the microwave to warm something up, it fries the chip in the bottom of the mug and you can’t get a free refill unless you show the receipt.
Janice belcuore says
You can refill ANY mug with coffee, tea or Iced tea without chip. Hot chocolate as well.
Abbie says
Hi! Are you able to use these if you are staying at a Disney springs hotel? I know you can’t use them in Disney Springs but wondered if we could get one for our hotel? Staying at Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs!
DFB Gigi says
Hi Abbie! Unfortunately, the refillable mugs are only for the Disney resorts and not the Good Neighbor resorts.
Brandon says
Abbie:
To clarify, you can purchase a resort refillable mug whether you are a resort guest or not.
And they are good for (I think) 20 day or 14 day from activation.
BUT you can ONLY refill them at a Disney World Resort Food Court.
The Disney Springs resorts are only partner hotels. Which is one step up from Good Neighbor Hotels.
These are not WDW resorts.
Heather Lane says
Is Shades of Green considered Disney Resort?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Heather! No, unfortunately. Shades of Green is not part of the Disney Resorts Collection. They are a Good Neighbor resort, however and do have other perks such as early entry to the Disney theme parks.
brandon says
Heather Lane:
You don’t have to be a Resort guest to buy a Resort Refillable Mug.
You just have to go to a Resort to buy one.
Dan says
Does anyone find it a bit inconvenient having to walk around the park all day carrying the refillable mug?
