The time is now!
There have been a lot of updates to the park pass reservation system as of late, the biggest being that, starting April 18th, Annual Passholders can enter the parks after 2PM without having a park pass reservation! We went ahead and tried it and we’re thrilled to let you know it worked without issue! But now we have an update on how this new system works with Magic Kingdom’s newest ride — TRON Lightcycle / Run!
While we were testing things out to see how this new 2PM Annual Passholder rule worked, we thought we’d also try to get a reservation for TRON.
Currently, TRON Lightcycle / Run does not have a standby queue meaning you have to either score a spot in the Virtual Queue when it opens at 7AM and 1PM or buy an Individual Lightning Lane for the ride.
What could’ve been the biggest snag was that you previously needed a valid park pass reservation for Magic Kingdom to be able to join the Virtual Queue. So how does this work now that some visitors DON’T need a park pass? Well, we found out!
When we scanned into the park, the 1PM Virtual Queue window was still open on the My Disney Experience app! This was somewhat a surprise since the Virtual Queues have filled up in seconds in the past, but with the end of spring break season, the crowds in the park are starting to lighten up.
Since the Virtual Queue was still open, we decided to try to grab a spot in the queue…and IT WORKED! We were able to join even though we technically didn’t have a park pass reservation. Managers were posted near the entrance of Magic Kingdom to make sure that this update worked on the app.
Now it’s not guaranteed that the Virtual Queue will still be open if you’re an Annual Passholder scanning in at 2PM, but if it is, go ahead and grab a spot in the queue! This is currently the only free way to ride TRON since Individual Lightning Lanes are an additional cost, so this is an important update for Passholders planning to use this new perk!
And there you have it! Good luck to you, and stay tuned for more on the latest Disney news!
