Groundbreaking TIMELINE Revealed for Disney’s Affordable Housing Development

With new rides, new restaurants, and new character experiences, it’s easy to forget that Disney is working on projects outside of the parks.

But Disney is working on all kinds of plans that might surprise you. Last year, we learned that Disney would be dedicating 80 acres of its Florida land to a new affordable and attainable housing development. The company has shared that this new project is to make “positive, lasting change to the communities it calls home.” Now, we’ve learned even MORE about the future of this development.

Earlier this week, Disney met with the leaders from The Michaels Organization, the developer for the project, to talk about the plans for this new initiative. According to Disney, groundbreaking for this new housing development is targeted for next year, 2024!

In addition, the plans for the development have expanded to include around 1,400 total units — over 100 more than they had previously announced.

“We hope to make a positive impact wherever we can in our community, so to be able to offer more units means even more Florida families will get access to attainable housing,” shared Disney. The project will also help the community by increasing jobs related to its production as well.

This isn’t the only way that Disney has been helping the community, however. The company has recently joined the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida for the grand opening of its reimagined youth center — which Disney granted $100,000 to help build. On the west coast, the company donated more than $300,000 last year to local community food banks in California.
