There are some places in Disney World that just naturally become THE place to be. We’re talking about the hangout spots where groups of people seem to congregate and mingle for HOURS at a time. If you’ve ever walked by a lively lounge or rowdy restaurant filled with people and wondered, “What’s going on in there?” we’re here to answer your question!

Today, we’re visiting a popular restaurant in EPCOT called the Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room. This fun spot has an attached pub and nearby Yorkshire County Fish Shop that all serve classic English bites and beverages. But for now, we’re dining in the main restaurant!

Atmosphere

Rose and Crown is a lovely little restaurant located in the U.K. Pavilion of the World Showcase. If you’ve ever walked through the U.K. Pavilion, you’ve likely noticed some pub patrons spilling out of the pub and sipping drinks outside the building. Inside, though, there is an accompanying sit-down restaurant with some British favorites. In the past, we’ve loved the reasonable prices, cozy atmosphere, and great service.

Inside, the dining room has a warm, cozy atmosphere with lots of wood fixtures and traditional decorations. The decor really immerses you in the United Kingdom theming! That said, don’t expect an overly special, romantic feeling from Rose & Crown. From the dark hardwood floors to the molded ceiling, this place makes us feel right at home with all the charming little details.

During our visit, there was a live pianist! Between the music and the chatter from the pub, this place can get pretty noisy. Guests drinking around the world tend to visit this spot, and it can get loud.

Okay, now let’s talk about the best part — the FOOD!

Eats

As you’ll notice, the Rose & Crown menu is filled with British comfort foods and TONS of drinks. Restaurant guests can order drinks from the attached pub — there are plenty of options!

The menu is a little smaller than it was on our last visit. There are two small appetizer options and a simple selection of British favorites.

The dessert choices are pretty limited, too. Kids’ meals here are pretty simple, but make sure to check the menu before your visit to see if there’s something your little one will eat.

Of course, we have to talk about the drinks — that’s probably one of the main reasons people dine here! From ales to ciders to specialty cocktails, there’s something for everyone.

They serve up plenty of pints here, along with a huge menu of pub blends. If you’re curious, a pub blend is multiple beers layered in a glass.

We started with the Scotch Egg for $14. If you’re unfamiliar, our Scotch Egg was a golden-fried hard-boiled cage-free egg wrapped in sausage with mustard sauce.

While this was a relatively authentic Scotch Egg, it didn’t really knock our socks off. The taste was fine, but we were missing a little of that peppery flavor we hoped to get from the sausage. The outer breading was our favorite part of this otherwise plain appetizer. If we were to order this again, we would ask for extra mustard to give it some more flavor.

After our little appetizer, it was time for the entrees! First up, we went with the classic Fish and Chips for $26. This is known as “Rose & Crown’s Signature Dish” and is beer-battered fish served with tartar sauce (and ketchup🇺🇸).

Unfortunately, the fish and chips did not impress us. The taste was very similar to the fish & chips you can get next door at the Yorkshire County Fish Shop, though the quick-service Yorkshire location serves THREE pieces of fish instead of the two we ate at Rose & Crown. (And Yorkshire County Fish Shop is cheaper!)

In comparison to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop Fish & Chips, the Rose & Crown fish had a thicker breading and smaller pieces of fish. Our experience had us missing the cheaper (and potentially superior) quick-service option! That said, the tartar sauce really pulled this dish together. It was nice and vinegary with plenty of flavor — we found it better than the prepackaged tartar sauce they serve outside.

Our second entree was the Savory Impossible Hot Pot for $23. This plant-based dish consisted of seasonal vegetables in a plant-based meat casserole baked with a mashed potato topping.

Good news; this dish was a winner! While some plant-based dishes come with a preconceived notion about taste and flavor, we never would have known this was a plant-based entree if we weren’t explicitly told. The flavor was similar to a shepherd’s pie, and the impossible meat was broken into nice little pieces. Even the potatoes were incredible!

Finally, we gave the Bangers and Mash a try. This entree is $23 and consists of traditional English sausage with colcannon potatoes, mushroom, onion, and red wine demi.

Out of all the food we tried for dinner, this had to be the biggest overall crowd-pleaser. The sausage was quite flavorful, and that hearty gravy tied everything together nicely. We were given a nice, heavy portion of potatoes, too! This was a comforting, classic English meal.

That said, our Bangers and Mash dish was heavy. The thought of eating this hot, carb-filled dish and then walking outside into 90° heat might make some people a little nauseous. If you think your stomach can handle it in the middle of a theme park day, or you’re planning to eat this later in the evening, we do highly recommend this meal.

For dessert, we had to get an old favorite, the Sticky Toffee Pudding. At $9, we recommend you order this sweet, steamed pudding ‘cake’ served with warm vanilla custard and hot butter-rum sauce.

As the name implies, it’s sweet and STICKY! The toffee flavor is quite strong, so you probably have to like toffee to enjoy this dessert. If you typically enjoy bread pudding, you would like this toffee pudding.

While we don’t usually recommend ordering dessert at Disney’s table service restaurants (there are arguably better options around the parks), we have to say, this pudding earned a YES from us! While we wish it came with a scoop of ice cream to cool us down, we do think you should order this little treat.

Of course, we HAD to order some drinks, too! First up was the Magners Pear Cider.

This is a reporter-favorite! It was definitely the lightest of the three drinks we tried — that sweet juicy pear flavor was delightful. One thing to note is that this drink is pretty acidic!

The specialty cocktail menu had a Cider and Fireball drink that was calling our name! This $14.50 cocktail was made with Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, and Strongbow Cider topped with Ginger Ale.

As you may have guessed from the name, the Fireball flavor is strong here. The drink leans on the sweet side with that strong cinnamon taste, and we could taste the Strongbow Cider as well. Overall, this was a refreshing apple cinnamon drink, but you need to like Fireball to enjoy this one.

Don’t worry — we won’t leave you hanging! We also ordered an Imperial Pint of Smithwick’s for $10.50. It is a pub, after all!

This beer was another favorite of ours! It has a lighter body yet the full flavor of a heavier beer. This is the perfect drink for those that like the heavier taste of a stout but don’t necessarily want to feel like they drank a loaf of bread.

Okay, now we’re officially STUFFED! Now, let’s go over our meal.

Nosh or Not

You SHOULD eat at Rose and Crown if…

• You want a hearty meal that will leave you stuffed.
• You want access to a special fireworks viewing location.
• You’re looking for an authentic English pub experience.

You should SKIP Rose and Crown if…

• You want a quiet meal — this sit-down restaurant was noisy and lively.
• You have a picky eater in your group. There isn’t a lot here for picky eaters, as the menu is pretty sparse.
• You don’t want to feel weighed down after your meal.

Overall

Eating at Rose and Crown was an overall pleasant experience. The food is warm and comforting (but VERY heavy), and the drink menu is loaded with options. That said, the atmosphere was loud. If you’re seated near the bar, expect lots of noise from the pub patrons.

Walking into the restaurant and grabbing a bite to eat really immerses you in that English pub atmosphere. Our server was friendly and helpful, and the food was fairly priced for the portions.

At the end of our meal, we were treated to a nice surprise. Our server took us to a designated fireworks viewing area that is separate from the fireworks dining package typically available for purchase. Outside, off to the left, our server walked us down to a roped-off patio area where watched the nighttime EPCOT Forever show. This little perk was a HUGE bonus!

On the other hand, the EPCOT World Showcase is filled with incredible dining options, and a meal at Rose and Crown might not be as exciting as a juicy steak dinner or a hibachi meal. If you’re in the mood for some hearty meat and potatoes, give this place a try; if you’re more interested in a gourmet meal, look elsewhere.

Our experience at Rose and Crown reminded us why this place is always filled with guests. Between the prime location on the World Showcase Lagoon and that extensive drink menu, it’s no wonder guests flock to this pub.
