Ever get frustrated by Genie+ and just how much it requires you to be on your phone throughout a day in Disney World? Well, you’re not alone and apparently YOU have Disney’s attention.
Disney has made a number of changes to Genie+ over the past several months, from allowing guests to modify selections (rather than just cancel) to changing just what rides are included with the general service (versus Pay-Per-Ride). And now more changes could be on the way!
If you missed the days of selecting some FastPass+ reservations in ADVANCE of your trip, you may be in luck. Disney has acknowledged that they’ve heard guests saying they wish they could “plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit” and Disney has now shared that they’re “working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024.”
According to Disney, their goal is to “give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family.” They haven’t revealed just what those changes will be yet, but more details are set to be released at a future date. It seems the overall goal will be to “simplify” your Genie+ experience.
Again, Disney hasn’t shared just what changes will be made to allow you to have some advance planning with Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes, but we’ll be on the lookout for details. Note that the changes won’t be implemented until 2024 (based on Disney’s current update), so you will want to be prepared to deal with the current Genie+ rules for the rest of 2023 (at least).

Just bring Fast Pass + for on site guests Already ! The current system is beyond Poor

The solution Disney is looking for is to get rid of Genie/Genie+ and go back to the FastPass system; because it worked and people didn’t have to spend all day looking down into their phones.
Pamela Gauthier says
Go back to traditional fast passes! What worked should never have been changed!

I’ll be there in July and I’m not looking forward to Genie +.

Our family went to WDW 3 times when FastPass+ was being used and it was great! We were staying on property so being able to plan some rides ahead of time was extremely helpful. It helped make our vacations wonderful.
We have been twice with the Genie, park reservation (glad they will stop that), and purchasing Genie+ craziness. It is terrible. I have to spend too much time in the parks on the Disney app scrolling to pick the next ride instead of enjoying the experience with my family. Not to mention the added expense. The park reservation system is just plain silly. It was just as crowded earlier this year as it was before Covid. We did like using the Disney app for mobile food orders as quick serve locations. The virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy went very smoothly each day we used it. I wish they kept the virtual queue for Remi in Epcot and Star Wars ROTR in Hollywood Studies.

Toss the Genie out the window. Bring back FP. Or at least make it more affordable for guests and let them pick their attractions ahead of time like FP was.

Ticket prices will increase in 2024 J am sure if it. Disney stayed at all along that genie plus and paid lightning Lane fees were all to keep numbers of gas down and the lines moving quicker. Which it actually did none of those things. So what Disney will do instead of lowering capacity each day, they will just keep increasing the price of tickets. No way will they ever go back to free anything. Let alone free, fast passes which they’re making a fortune from right now. Look what they did to the dining plan for 2024. Things will not be better in 2024 Disney will never be the same.

Fastpass+ worked perfectly, everyone was happy with the way it was used and people didn’t have to spend all day looking at their phones. I hope at the very least the genie/lightning lane system will be made complimentary for on site guests days in advance the way fastpass+ was. I’m pretty sure no one wants to wake up at 7am while they’re supposed to be on holiday.
