We’ve been keeping a close eye on the Brightline train — a near-high-speed rail system that will span much of south and central Florida with a stop at the Orlando International Airport.
It could usher in a whole new method of transportation for folks heading to Disney World, and we even got to check out a look inside the new airport station. And now, it looks like we’re one step closer to that station being open!
Brightline is opening its Orlando International Airport train station later this year, and we’ve been keeping up with all the latest updates. Brightline expects the route from Orlando to Miami to open sometime later this year. The company also expects to have a $6.4 billion economic impact on Florida’s economy over the next eight years and to create 2000 new jobs following construction.
As of now, Brightline hasn’t shared an official opening date, but signs point to the service being one step closer to opening. According to WESH, the company is looking to fill over 170 job positions at the station before it opens. Positions include onboard train attendants, and Brightline will be meeting with candidates at the Annual Orlando Mayor’s Job Fair on May 17th from 12PM to 4PM.
On May 18th, candidates can head to the Embassy Suites Hilton on International Drive from 10AM to 2PM for more information.
Much of the train’s business is expected to come from the business community, as that’s what they’ve seen in South Florida. As of now, they have “identified 150 companies with a 20,000-employee population that have a need to commute between South Florida and Central Florida.”
The trains are expected to carry around 3 million passengers per year, with that number increasing as more trains are added. Ultimately, the system will carry 6 to 7 million passengers per year.
The new station is 37,350 square feet and features two train platforms, each as long as the Eiffel Tower. Brightline will screen all passengers and bags prior to boarding, so there’s an area for that as well. The station is also home to two different lounges.
We’re looking forward to one more transportation option to be offered near Disney World, and will be keeping an eye out for the latest updates. Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more!

Surprising how any of the non Disney stores on Disney Springs survive when you have premium outlets so close
