If you’ve been to Disney World many times before, your house is probably overflowing with souvenirs from your trip.
If you’ve already got a solid collection of Minnie ears, your drawers are stuffed with Disney t-shirts, and you don’t have any room for more Loungefly bags…what do you buy on your next trip? Well, if you’re out of souvenir ideas, or you just want something new and unique to bring home, we’ve got the perfect souvenir for you!
If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, you might’ve noticed the bath products shop on the second floor of the main building — Basin White. This store offers a variety of bath bombs, soaps, shampoos, lip balms, and other natural products. There’s also a location in Disney Springs (Basin Fresh).
But one thing that you may not know about is Basin White’s make-your-own-candle offering! This souvenir can be customized to the maker’s liking with different paraffin wax scents mixed together in a glass jar. These candles are $19.99 each or two for $35.
On its own, this might not seem too special, but here’s the kicker — the scents are all Disney-inspired! That’s right, you can make your own candle with a mix of your favorite Disney smells. There’s a little card available with a color code and scent notes for each of the waxes, but we, of course, had to sniff them ourselves to compare.
The first two are clearly inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. The Yo Ho! scent is reminiscent of gunpowder and reminds us of the showdown scene from the ride with Captain Barbosa. Ghosted doesn’t really smell like Haunted Mansion at all, but the notes of amber and musk go nicely together.
If you’re a fan of Soarin’ Around the World, then you NEED the Fijian Flight scented candle! This one reminds us exactly of that particular scent from the ride, as well as a bit of the smell you get while riding Flight of Passage. Lodge is reminiscent of Wilderness Lodge, and it smells exactly like a thick forest of trees.
Our least favorite of the bunch (and the only one we didn’t really like) was Polynesian Escape. The name made us think that it would smell like the lobby at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but it really just smelled kinda fruity and buttery. (Yeah, the butter was odd to us too!)
Back when Soarin’ was Soarin’ Over California, many associated the smell of Orange Groves with the ride, and that particular wax option is strong and accurate. Pineapple Float smells like a delicious Dole Whip on a hot day!
Isn’t It Grand reminds us of the Grand Floridian lobby faintly, while Sweet Shop smells like a cupcake in the Main Street Confectionery. Resort is a fresh and clean scent that makes us think of a brand-new hotel room.
So if you’re interested in making your own Disney-inspired candle, you know where to go! As far as Disney souvenirs go, this one isn’t too expensive…plus it’s fun! We’ll keep you in the loop if we find any more fun souvenirs we think you’ll be interested in.
