There is a LOT of construction going on in Disney World right now. Between the parks and the resorts, there are construction walls, cranes, and barriers all over the place!
EPCOT has been under construction for a LONG time as it undergoes a huge transformation. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is building new DVC villas. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been doing some work, too, which impacted a walkway from the resort to Magic Kingdom. Now, we’ve got some good news!
The walkway between Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Magic Kingdom officially reopened. The path initially opened in 2020 to give guests another way to travel to Magic Kingdom, but all the construction around the resort caused it to close in February 2023. Now, though, the walking path is open again.
We checked it out on the Magic Kingdom side and decided to take a stroll over to the Grand Floridian.
We followed the sign to take the walkway to the Grand Floridian. The path is nice and wide, but we wish it was a little more shaded — that Florida sun is INTENSE!
It’s a pretty walk, though, and something to do on a day when it’s not too hot out. You’ve got a nice view of the Seven Seas Lagoon off to the side!
The walk is about a mile from Magic Kingdom’s security checkpoint to the Grand Floridian Hotel. We estimate it takes about 15-20 minutes at a regular walking pace. Of course, you could just take your time and enjoy the scenery, too.
There are also plenty of lamps if you’re worried about walking at night — there should be plenty of light! The gate at the main bridge locks (closing the walkway) around an hour to an hour and a half after Magic Kingdom closes, so keep that in mind.

Of course, you don’t HAVE to walk if you don’t want to. You can still take a boat or the Monorail to Magic Kingdom if that’s what you prefer. (It would certainly save your feet the extra steps!)
We’ll keep you updated on all construction at Disney World and how that affects things around the resort, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

This is fun news. I am staying at the Grand Floridian in a few weeks. I might be tempted to do the walk, but adding another mile to my step count isn’t exactly appealing lol.

This is not a perk…. This is a smart infrastructure improvement.
If you are not staying at a Disney resort, you can still use it.
For joggers, a completed path around the 7 Seas Lagoon.
But not a perk.

While staying at the Contemporary, take a day off from the parks and walk – past the Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian for snack or lunch, then walk over to the Polynesian for a drink at the bar, and finish the trip in the comfort of a monorail back to the Contemporary. Be sure to stroll thru the gift shops and enjoy unique designs found in these hotels.
