It’s always a little depressing when a beloved ride closes in Disney World — even if it’s just temporary!
Sometimes the closure is permanent, like Splash Mountain, which is getting re-themed to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Other times, ride closures are temporary due to technical issues. And sometimes, rides need to close to get some well-needed maintenance. That’s the case with a ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which just reopened after a months-long closure.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed in February for a loooong refurbishment. During that time, Disney did some maintenance on the ride and even gave it a few updates. The ride reopened just recently (surprising everyone in the process), so we had to hop on it to see exactly what has changed.
The premise of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is that you’re stepping into a super-stretch limo thanks to rock band Aerosmith (and the pre-show even shows the iconic band in a recording studio) to go on a thrilling ride through the dark highways of Los Angeles to the tune of Aerosmith’s music.
So for those of you who are fans of the roller coaster’s soundtrack, we’ve got some great news. The songs are still the same. Note that each coaster train may hear a different song from the playlist, but the songs haven’t changed from those that were played BEFORE the refurbishment. All of you Aerosmith fans can do a collective sigh of relief — the songs are safe!
The signs on the ride, though, have had a REFRESH: they’re freshly painted and visibly a lot brighter. Now, as you zoom past the highway signs and curvy palm trees, you can get a clear, bright look at the Imagineering details. Otherwise, though, the ride remains exactly the same.
The ride was notorious for breaking down a lot before its lengthy refurbishment, so let’s hope that whatever issues it was previously having have also been fixed. Be sure to check it out the next time you’re in Hollywood Studios — it’s a fan favorite for a reason!

Does anyone know what songs they typically play?

One must hope that they fixed technical and engineering issues during this time too and not just gave it a fresh paint job. I was hoping for a new theme to a more current band but oh well. It’s still a fun ride. And the single rider line is great.

It’s on the Disney world website.
Each vehicle broadcasts different Aerosmith hit songs, including “Walk This Way,” “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Sweet Emotion” and “Back in the Saddle.” The classic “Love in an Elevator” was rewritten as “Love in a Roller Coaster” specifically for this rocktastic attraction.

I am so relieved th as t Disney didn’t change too much on Rockin’ and totally relieved th as t it wasn’t rethemed. This is the one ride in Hollywood Studios that I totally look forward to riding as I am a HUGE Aerosmith fan.

I was very happy to get to ride on the last day of my trip since I was expecting it to be closed. The fresh, bright new paint looks awesome! Now my vacation is complete!

Apparently, the ride started having technical problems a day after it reopened. So, no, it looks like the previous issues haven’t been fixed. 🙁
Also, 3 months for a refurb at WDW isn’t a “loooong refurbishment”. That’s standard at Disney for giving a ride a new lick of paint.

I’m happy! Good to know, somethings don’t need to change…

I was there on MAY 28th. Went through the single rider line. Start to finish into gift shop took 1 hour I tried to go through again and the ride broke down. After a half hour they gave us LL passes to come back. On way out I said good bye to gift shop staff said I’d be back and I heard them say as I walked out (talking to themselves) that’s the 5th time today it broke down. I think it was around 3pm.

I love the rock n roll roller coaster and Aerosmith when they say welcome to the g force they mean it can’t get enough of that ride
Michael says
Still the best attraction/ride at Disney!
James says
I wish they’d update the ride to a more relevant band. Aerosmith had a long career but they’ve been largely dormant the last 20 years or so.

We were there when the coaster opened back up, I have to say never again! We were told to go to the last seat which we did, and it absolutely jerked and threw us from side to side, so hard that I thought I was going to have a concussion when I exited the ride. It threw my neck and head around the entire ride, all the while trying to keep my head and neck braced against the seat. With the force that it throws your entire body around there’s no way this ride is safe. Disney will be lucky to escape law suits over this ride., someone is going to have head and neck injuries because of the roughness of this ride. Beware! Ride with extreme caution!
Corey says
The back seat being rough has nothing to do with the refurb – the back of almost any coaster is going to be the fastest and most active since it’s the tail of the train.
I’ve never understood the advice to try keeping your head against the seat – the bumps will make your head bounce like crazy off the seat. Better to strengthen your neck and not put your against the headrest.

The ride is shut down again for a refurb. Its says open again summer 2024. im going july 2024. Whats the chances of it being back up and ready for then
