We’ve experienced all kinds of wild things in Disney World.
We’ve been stuck on property during a hurricane, we’ve been there for some of the most crowded days in history, and we’ve had our fair share of unfortunate mishaps — from ride closures to unexpected sickness. But recently, we got to add another experience to our list when a member of our team was evacuated from an iconic EPCOT ride.
The other night, we made it most of the way through our ride on Spaceship Earth and were beginning our descent back to the bottom of the geodesic sphere when the ride suddenly stopped. Yep, that’s right, we got stuck going backward in the dark!
We got STUCK on Spaceship Earth! 🌐 it’s not nearly as exciting when you’re just sitting in a big black tunnel LOL! pic.twitter.com/nUGGgtzN4G

We were stuck in place for a little while before Cast Members began evacuating guests from the ride. Since we were close to the end, it wasn’t as complicated to leave — although, it’s quite difficult to get out of the ride vehicles when they’re tilted back. We walked down some stairs and headed out a side exit.

Alas, it might’ve been cooler if we’d been stuck in a more exciting scene, but it was a unique experience, nonetheless! It’s often really interesting to see how evacuations work on different Disney World rides.

Yes. The same thing happened to my group in January. Unfortunately, we were stuck for half an hour and half of that was in the dark and tilted backwards. The only contact was a prerecorded message saying to stay in the cars. It got very hot and stuffy then we saw cast members coming up the steps beside the cars. It was extremely difficult to get out because of the tilt backwards. Terrible experience especially because of the claustrophobic darkness and not knowing what’s happening and no way to contact help.
