Have you gone “under the sea” and seen Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid yet?
This film has been officially released and we’ve been sharing TONS of news about the movie! We’ve covered some celebrities’ inside thoughts about the film, like Melissa McCarthy and Jodi Benson, and we’ve even shown you where you can meet the live-action version of Ariel in Disney World! Well, now, there are two Disney celebrities that have shared their thoughts about a potential spin-off!
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem, who play Ursula and King Triton in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, already want to have an Ursula/Triton spin-off! That was fast!
In Disney’s reimagined version of the original movie, McCarthy and Bardem play rival siblings Ursula and King Triton. In a recent interview with the two, McCarthy said she made a point to enjoy every second that she shared with Bardem.
She said, “I was really nervous to meet him, but the nerves went away within two seconds. The second you meet Javier, he’s like a walking warm hug,” and when asked if she had crossed paths with him, “I’ve dreamed of it. I’ve always wanted to, so this is quite a thrill for me.” Bardem also shared, “I follow the amazing work that she does, and we love her at home. So it was great to know that we at least had a day that we could cross paths on the set.”
He then went on to reflect on her acting by saying, “She’s brought everything that you can ask for and imagine. So I need an Ursula spinoff, and since our characters are siblings, I want to have one scene with her while having dinner.” To which McCarthy immediately responded, “Let’s go for six or seven if we’re throwing it out there. C’mon!”
We are TOTALLY on board for a live-action Ursula spin-off and can only hope that Disney is listening! And there you have it. We’ll keep updating you with any news about this movie and more, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest!
