Pirates of the Caribbean isn’t just a classic Disney ride — it’s also a highly successful film franchise.
The film franchise was, in fact, so successful that parts of the movie have made their way INTO the classic attraction in Disney Parks. But what’s going on with the franchise? Will we ever see a NEW Pirates of the Caribbean movie again? Well, the answer is “maybe.”
So here’s the deal: at one point, Disney was working on a NEW female-led Pirates of the Caribbean sequel starring Margot Robbie and written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), with Jerry Bruckheimer remaining as producer. According to Vanity Fair, though, Disney was not moving forward with the project. However, in an interview with Collider, Bruckheimer said that the female-led movie wasn’t completely dead just yet.
At the time, Bruckheimer also said, “We developed two different stories for ‘Pirates’ and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.”
But wait, because there’s MORE. Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, recently spoke to The New York Times, in an article that mentions that the restarting of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise is another priority for Disney, although nothing official has been announced.
Bailey said, “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say.” Could this be the other movie that producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously mentioned?
When asked about the return of Captain Jack Sparrow, Bailey answered, “Noncommital at this point.” So it seems Disney is not completely ruling out the return of Johnny Depp in the iconic role.

There is no Pirates without Captain Jack- funny how they still have a character walking around portraying him and he is still in the rides even tho they fired Depp. Big thumbs down to Disney for this

I can understand wanting to “restart” or “pass the torch” with the Pirate franchise, as Disney has burned through a through franchises. Disney could announce a new trilogy with Depp having a decreasing role in each film. Try to unite the original cast for one last adventure probably helping out Jack’s new crew (a way to establish the newer characters) focus on what made the franchise enjoyable. If Disney wants to have a “female focused” pirates franchise, use this as a way to introduce them and make a spin-off.

Big fan of the movies big fan of Disney but they need to bring Depp back as Jack not only because he built the character that makes the movie but because that same kind of creativity is the reason Disney is the magic maker. Honestly I will choose to not see it buy merchandise from the movies if Depp is not in it. The magic will be gone. I am sure many feel the same. I ask that Disney executive keep an open mind and highly consider the original fan base for these movies in the series. Do not forget it is the fans that introduce our kids and others – that is worth its influence in gold. Keep the magic of the series I or We so love! Both Johnny and Disney are lucky to have such a success all get partnerships should be cherished.

If it’s not Johnny Depp it’s NOT Pirates of the Caribbean!!! I won’t go see the movie without him in it as Jack Sparrow.
