If we’re not in the Disney Parks, you can find us soaking up all the magic that comes along with seeing a Disney movie at the theater.
We’ll be taking it all in with a heaping bucket of popcorn in our laps, phones on silent, and probably enough candy to feed a small village. Disney has released quite a few films over the past few months and has announced the upcoming release of even more. Of course, we’re excited to see all of these movies and therefore watch like a hawk for release dates. However, it seems that things have changed regarding the release of many films.
It seems that the release dates of many upcoming Disney films have been CHANGED. Filming timelines have been extended, some release dates have been postponed, and others have been moved forward. Here are some updated release dates according to Variety Magazine:
- Live-Action Moana — moved up to June 27th, 2025
- Alien — August 16th, 2024
- UNTITLEDÂ Star Wars movie — December 18th, 2026
- Avatar 3Â — delayed to December 19th, 2025
- Avatar 4 — delayed to December 21st, 2029
- Avatar 5Â — delayed to December 19th, 2031
Alright, we’re already making plans for 2031. This currently sets the release of Avatar 5 to be 22 years after the release of the original film in 2009. Isn’t that crazy? According to the Variety article, the space between each of the upcoming Avatar movies will “allow the post-production and visual effects department to continue expanding, developing, and refining the different ecosystems across the vast world of Pandora.”
Marvel release dates have also been shifted. As of right now, we can expect the following:
- Captain America: Brave New World — moving up to July 26th, 2024 from May 3rd, 2024
- Thunderbolts — delayed to December 20th, 2024
- Blade — delayed to February 14th, 2025
- Fantastic Four — delayed to May 2nd, 2025
- Avengers: The Kang Dynasty — delayed from May 2nd, 2025, to May 1st, 2026
- Avengers: Secret Wars — delayed from May 1st, 2026 to May 7th, 2027
- Deadpool 3Â — moved up from November 8th, 2024, to May 3rd, 2024
As far as the Marvel film delays, the recent pause Disney put on Blade and Thunderbolt filming caused a ripple effect across the rest of the upcoming movies.
The new release timeline for upcoming Star Wars movies gets a little confusing. With the new addition of the Star Wars movie in 2026, that means that two movies in the franchise will be released in that year, because a separate Star Wars film has been pushed from December 19th, 2025, to May 22nd, 2026. Plus, yet another film is set for December 17th, 2027. Disney hasn’t given us any details as far as film names or plots in general.
Whew! That’s a LOT. However, we’ll be marking our calendars nonetheless and looking forward to seeing these films — even if we won’t see some of them until 2031. We’ll continue to keep you updated with all things Disney entertainment news, so make sure to follow along for more!
