Disney Genie+ has been around for a while now, and we’ve gotten to know the ins and the outs.
But, this skip-the-line service is changing in 2024 — we just don’t exactly know how yet. Disney has shared that updates will be coming to Genie+ next year, and we’re sharing everything we know so far about what might change.
What We Know
Disney has acknowledged that they’ve heard guests saying they wish they could “plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit” and Disney has now shared that they’re “working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024.”
Here’s the full statement from Disney:
We have heard from guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit, and we want you to know we are working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family. While we are not yet able to share specific details, we look forward to sharing more information at a later date.
According to Disney, their goal is to “give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family.” They haven’t revealed just what those changes will be yet, but more details are set to be released at a future date. It seems the overall goal will be to “simplify” your Genie+ experience.
What Could Change
While Disney hasn’t elaborated on what changes might be coming, we do know that based on what they’ve said, it will hopefully mean guests won’t have to spend so much time planning when they’re in the parks. Back in the old times, folks heading to Disney World were able to schedule FastPass times well in advance of their trip. This offered less flexibility while in the parks but meant that you didn’t have to spend time on your phone to choose which line you wanted to skip next. Some guests didn’t really love this, though, and felt pressure to have to plan too far in advance.
It seems like the overall goal of these changes will be to simplify the Genie+ system altogether — which might require a big overhaul. But, we’ve seen Genie+ change before. When it first debuted, you were able to purchase the service in advance, for the entire stay of your trip. And then, Disney introduced surge pricing to Genie+ and announced that you’d no longer be able to purchase it ahead of your visit. Now, you can only purchase Genie+ on the date of your visit.
Another recent change is that Genie+ now varies in price depending on which park you plan to use it in. For example, if you’re heading to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, it’ll probably be cheaper to use Genie+ than it would be in Magic Kingdom. There’s also an option to buy Genie+ for multiple parks.
Disney also mentioned the potential of being able to plan out Individual Lightning Lane selections before you get to the parks. Imagine being able to schedule your ride on Rise of the Resistance months before you’re even close to Disney World — sign us up. Ultimately, there’s no way for us to know what sort of changes Disney has in store for Genie+, but you can be sure we’ll be keeping an eye out for the latest updates.

These would be good changes for Genie+. I think most of us would love to be able to plan well in advance of trips.
Dan says
I’d love to see it so that we could purchase it with our tickets again. It’s a little easier to stomach the price when it’s bundled with something else…

The irony that some people being upset with having to make a park reservation months in advance because it locks them into a park are cheering locking themselves into a park via Lightning Lanes is too funny! LOL!
