A NEW attraction is opening this fall (2023) in EPCOT: Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on construction for this attraction and have seen lots of new rock formations, plenty of foliage, and even what appears to be the entrance go up in World Nature. Now, Disney has released NEW photos of the attraction!
Disney posted a few new photos on Instagram that show Imagineers testing out some water effects. Previously, Disney announced that Journey of Water will feature a “lush exploration trail” that allows explorers to “play with magical, living water” through an immersive walk-through attraction. It seems like they’re working on that “magical, living water” right now!
In the post, Disney said, “Our Imagineers have begun to teach water how to play in Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. Guests of all ages will engage with water in a variety of ways as they learn about water’s amazing ‘journey’ around our natural world, including ways to better conserve our natural resources and protect water as it voyages throughout our natural world, connecting us all.”
They said that they’re currently testing and preparing the attraction to open on schedule this fall (2023) in World Nature.
The Walt Disney Imagineering team has tasked themselves with capturing the beauty of the natural water cycle for the attraction. Disney says they were also inspired by Moana’s fierce determination to protect her environment and her bond with water.
If you’re a fan of the movie Moana, you should be able to recognize some familiar characters and shapes that are carved into the rocks and waterways(there are about a dozen hidden characters throughout the attraction, both on land and in the water) throughout Journey of Water!
Another element of the attraction is a giant Te Fiti sculpture, which has already arrived in EPCOT. You can spot her if you ride the Monorail around the park!
We’ll continue to watch for more updates on this upcoming attraction, so stay tuned to DFB.

I know that I post this on just about every JoW-iM update, but this would be a great place for some added Disney Magic via Magic Band +.
