If you ask us, it’s always a good day if baby animals are involved.
A fan-favorite perk of visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is the opportunity to check out an impressive array of animals that roam around the savanna. What’s even better is that occasionally, we’re lucky enough to spot the adorable BABY animals that will sometimes grace us with their presence. Back in May, Disney announced that Penny, a baby yellow-backed duiker calf was born. Now, Disney has announced the arrival of two more baby animals that will join the Animal Kingdom family.
Two teeny tiny friends have joined the crew: a set of cotton-top tamarins! These monkeys are about 4-inches long and weigh about the same as a common chicken egg. They’re only about a week old, and they’re the first cotton-top tamarins born at Animal Kingdom since 2001!
You might have a chance at spotting these babies in their habitat on Discovery Island. You’ll most likely find them clinging to their parents as they leap from branch to branch.
Cotton-top tamarins are a critically endangered species native to Colombia, and there are currently fewer than 7,500 remaining in the wild. The birth of these two babes in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is an example of how Disney works with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan to ensure responsible breeding and caretaking to create healthy and genetically diverse species for years to come.
You can support Disney’s mission to help protect cotton-top tamarins by visiting Creature Comforts and ordering a Flat-White Latte. The proceeds will go toward the Disney Conservation Fund’s efforts to protect these monkeys. Oh, and we’ve also seen some treats pop up here in the past that support the mission as well!

I think baby animals are a perfect reason to go to Disney World! I never saw a baby okapi before and he’s adorable. When I was in Animal Kingdom one year I saw a baby elephant; it was so sweet and I think it was the babiest one I ever saw!
