Ever since Genie+ was introduced in Disney World in 2021, we’ve seen a lot of changes.
From date-based pricing to new Lightning Lanes added, you have to stay on top of the Genie+ news in order to use the system as effectively as possible in the parks. And now, Disney World is introducing an update that will change your strategy BIG TIME.
Starting June 27th, visitors will now purchase Genie+ based on the park that they want to visit. Guests can either buy a single-park Genie+ option or a multi-park option.
Both of these offerings will be subject to availability and prices will vary. This means that prices could be lower at one park than at another. For example, you might pay $27 at Magic Kingdom on a particular day, but Genie+ could be $18 at Animal Kingdom that day if there’s lower demand.
You’ll continue to purchase Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit. Currently, sales are available beginning at midnight and all visitors can make their first Genie+ selection starting at 7AM.
The Disney World website has been updated with a note about this change. Currently, the My Disney Experience app still shows the current method for purchasing, and that likely won’t change until the 27th. Keep in mind that you may need to update your app when this change goes live.
Disney also shared a graphic that shows what purchasing Genie+ will be like on June 27th. At the top, you’ve got the “Multiple Parks” option with the most expensive price, then each of the individual parks is below that with varying price points. Predictably, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are the most expensive, with EPCOT and Animal Kingdom costing less individually. It’s not a guarantee that it’ll always be that way, but it’s a similar trend we’ve noticed with one-day ticket prices.
We’ll make sure to keep you updated with more details about this change, and we’ll check it out when it goes live on June 27th. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and updates from Disney World.

Just another way for Disney to raise the prices for Genie + overall. Getting an individual Genie + for 1 park will continue to increase making the multiple park go higher. Disney is really making it harder for families with annual passes to continue coming to the parks raising ticket and Genie + cost often.
Justin says
Genie+ was much better when it was first introduced/rolled out. One standard price. Even the Individual Attraction Selection (pay-per-ride) were more-or-less one standard price. Now, everything fluctuates based on the day you get it. Making it not worth getting.
JD Sparks says
I love Disney . . .but I worry to many this may be the start of the last straw. . . . I know times are hard but sheesh, They keep making it more difficult and more expensive.
Loz says
Ugh. I love Disney, but I literally have nightmares about Genie+ and how to use it.
Joe B says
Here’s a “huge Genie + change” we’d like to see. Exactly what Disney just did in the Hong Kong and Paris parks.
It’s BRING BACK THE FREE FAST PASS.
Carl says
Get rid of genie + all together
LINDA says
The Genie + option just keeps getting worse for the guests at Disney World. My hope was that the powers that be would eventually see the guest dissatisfaction with this add on and go back to the Fastpass even if it was for a nominal fee, but they just keep doubling down on this thing and upping the price. So unhappy with the direction of the Disney Company. BRING BACK THE FASTPASS.
Arlene says
For a company that promised to make things easier for its guest, this seems to be more complicated! It just adds another layer of confusion to a system that is already complicated and difficult to use. Not a fan of this, or the many other changes that Disney has made to make it more difficult for guests to try to enjoy the parks and their vacation.
Pris says
If this “savings” is supposed to be special, I’ll pass.
Mike says
Fast Pass +. Bring it Back
P. AB says
My thoughts on this are the same as usual on Genie+ frankly… Genie is clunky, too crowded with nonessentials and ‘ads’, not user friendly, and G+ is ridiculously expensive, given the cost of a Disney park ticket.
If we need a cheat sheet for Genie (which people do, clearly), something is wrong. This change does nothing to fix any of the “wrong,” imo.
Still sad, disappointed and disillusioned. Still planning to ride out the trip we were already planned into, and then not renew our APs and start selling off our DVC points. We’ll withhold final judgement until after the trip, but I’m not encouraged by much of anything coming out of Disney lately. [By which I mean park-, ticket-, AP- and cost-related, specifically. My sadness and disillusionment is completely about how we the customer — especially the AP / DVC customer — are being treated these days.]

This change makes me even less likely to use this horrible system. It’s not worth the cost. You are stuck on your phone and even less part of the vacation. It’s so stressful at Disney now they way they have it set up. Universal has the better deal when it comes to the express passes. They work so much smoother and I don’t have to rely on being on my phone the entire day. I can be more part of everything. So much more relaxing. This system stinks…. I’ve always been such a big Disney fan. I guess the cruise line is my only way to get my Disney fix now. At least that is still relaxing.
Gaz says
Any news on what genie plus you get if you have pre purchased it. We purchased tickets last year before the pay on the day option and have paid for genie plus all trip already.
Ron says
Gigi, is it true that Disney has brought back the FREE FAST PASS in the Paris and Hong Kong Parks?
DFB Gigi says
Hi Ron. You can read about Disneyland Paris’ passes here: https://www.disneylandparis.com/en-usd/attractions/disney-premier-access/ and you can read about Hong Kong’s passes here: https://www.hongkongdisneyland.com/search/?searchQuery=pass
Please keep in mind that in the case of Disneyland in Hong Kong, Disney does not own that park fully. The majority is owned by the Hong Kong government.
Ron says
Gigi, isn’t the Stand By Pass in Hong Kong the same as the Free Fast Pass that we had before
DFB Gigi says
I don’t know, Ron. Maybe. I’ve never been to Hong Kong. All I know is that they are not owned fully by Disney so their perks can be a little different than normal Disney parks.
Ron says
Gigi, Disney has their name on the Disney Hong Kong Park. If that park can be run profitably with FREE FAST PASS, why can’t Disney do the same in all of their parks? How much profit does Disney want to make? My family of 8 and I were in Disney World in 2019. We had The Magical Express, Free Fast Pass and Reasonable Pricing for Hotels, Park Entry and Food. In our 28 vacations in Disney World up to 2019, we NEVER HEARD THE WORDS FULL CAPACITY in the parks. Now you hear FULL CAPACITY all the time to justify the changes. Gigi can you communicate with Disney our concerns? PLEASE
DFB Gigi says
Hi Ron. Unfortunately, you will need to reach out to Disney to express your concerns as I do not have any special connections or way of reaching out to them beyond what you would be able to do. I just moderate comments for DFB. I do not speak to or on behalf of the Disney Parks. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful.
Ron says
Gigi, thank you so much for your concern and advice. Ron
Jack says
The old fast pass system was better and free. Hate genie.
Kay says
Not a fan of genie but we bought it. Could not have made it without it since my family had covid before our vacation. I found it a pain waking up first thing in morning looking for that ride then having to find rides all day long. Lol! I think I saw the oarks. Lol!
To pay for genie we gave up park Hopper/ water park addition to our ticket!
If prices keep increasing we will have to shorten our days and experiences at Disney that we have enjoyed in pass. Maybe just go to one or two parks and do something else outside of Disney for a change.
