The work at Disney World does NOT seem to stop!
Construction is ongoing at Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana, there’s a whole bunch of work going on at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and other updates are underway at places like Disney’s BoardWalk and beyond. But now we’re taking a look at some new permits that could signal what other changes Disney has underway.
Technically what we look at are called Notices of Commencement. These generally could indicate that work on projects at these addresses may start soon. Here’s some of what we’ve seen lately.
1 — Set Elements
First up, we have a permit where the work described is to “install set elements.” Walt Disney Imagineering is listed as the owner of the property involved in the permit, and Kentavo is listed as the contractor doing the work. It’s interesting because we have seen Kentavo on another permit in the past related to a sign being installed at the Frontierland Train Station in Magic Kingdom and a separate permit related to signs for a restroom in Animal Kingdom.
So where are these “set elements” going to be installed? Where there are 3 addresses listed. One appears to be the building where Stitch’s Great Escape was once open in Magic Kingdom (that’s interesting considering that spot has been closed for a WHILE and was used temporarily — months ago — as a TRON Lightcycle / Run merchandise pop-up store).
Another appears to be the entrance/queue building for The Jungle Cruise (we’ve seen a number of permits related to the Jungle Cruise lately), and the final address appears to be tied to the building used for Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant in Magic Kingdom (much of that space is mostly just used for fireworks dessert parties now).
Hmm…what could Disney have planned for these areas? What “set elements” could be coming? Could these potentially be related to Disney’s upcoming seasonal parties or other changes? It’s not clear, but we’ll certainly keep an eye out for updates.

2 — Stitch AGAIN?!
Interestingly, we found ANOTHER permit filed recently related to the building that once housed Stitch’s Great Escape. This time, the owner of the property is simply Disney World and the contractor is Summit Fire & Security. The work is supposed to be some kind of mechanical improvement.
The permit doesn’t give us much information in terms of what this could be for, but again it’s interesting to see this building — which goes relatively unused by guests — involved in 2 recent permits.
Sometimes this space has been used in the past for things like trick or treating or a meet-and-greet during special events, so it’s possible that Disney may be preparing for something to be done here with things like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party coming up.
Or there could be other reasons behind this work — we’ll have to wait and see!

3 — Work in World Celebration
Finally, another permit we spotted is somewhat similar to one we’ve seen in the past. Not long ago, we saw a permit filed to “install planter elements” at 2 spots in EPCOT with Sign Producers, Inc. as the contractor. Now, it seems Disney and Sign Producers, Inc. are working on more “planter elements” in the park.
This new permit lists the same work (install planter elements), once again has Imagineering as the owner, and features Sign Producers as the contractor.
So where is the work being done this time? Well, one of the addresses seems to line up with the permit filed last week — it’s for the “East Gate” at the front of EPCOT (which is all the way at the front of the park, on the left-hand side if you’re facing Spaceship Earth. But the other address is a new one that wasn’t included in the previous permit we saw.
That address appears to be tied to the old fountain area in the former Future World (it is named “Fountain Stage Innoventions” on a mapping website)!
There is a LOT of work being done in the World Celebration area of EPCOT so it’s unclear specifically what “planter elements” would be installed here, but it is interesting to see a permit specifically for this space.
The work in World Celebration is set to be done in 2023, so we’ll certainly be on the lookout for updates there.

Those are the big permits we spotted recently, but that’s by no means all the work Disney is doing these days. We’ve also seen permits filed recently to install fiber optics at a building in Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, a permit for the termination of some equipment at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and more.
We’ll keep an eye out for more about these projects and let you know what we find.
