Today, we’re taking you with us to visit Disney California Adventure for some good food.
Disneyland Resort has had some BIG things coming to the parks lately. Have you seen the dancing baby Groot robot yet? We also saw dates announced for Oogie Boogie Bash for this fall. Now, when we heard there was a NEW mac and cheese fried chicken sandwich at the park — we had to try it.
Today we’re heading to Smokejumpers Grill at Disney’s California Adventure. This quick-service restaurant is “inspired by the heroic men and women who fight wildfires in California’s lush forests.” It is located next to Soarin and is known for its seasoning offerings and delicious shakes.
ATMOSPHERE
The restaurant is a metal green building surrounded by outdoor seating.
You can place an order at the counter, but we suggest mobile ordering instead. It does get crowded in here.
The theming of the jumpers and planes continues on the menu.
There are nods to the Smokejumpers inside of the restaurant, as well as the Bear Country poster hanging on the wall.
There is plenty of seating outside of the restaurant with umbrellas to provide shade.
There is even more outdoor seating covered with canopies.
MENU
Right now at Smokejumpers Grill, they have multiple seasonal offerings as well as special offerings for the Disney100 celebration.
They also have a few entrees to choose from including sandwiches, chicken tenders, and burgers.
There is also an Impossible Cheeseburger as a plant-based offering, and sides include fries and onion rings.
A burger or chicken tenders are the choices for kids’ meals.
There are a few dessert options, as well as alcoholic beverages for purchase.
Finally, other non-alcoholic beverages include bottled water, soda, and apple juice.
EATS
First, we tried the Bacon-Green Chile Mac and Cheese Fried Chicken Sandwich for $14.49. This fried chicken sandwich is topped with Bacon-Green Chile Mac and Cheese on a Toasted Bun and served with Crinkle-cut Fries.
The chicken patty was juicy and flavorful. The spice wasn’t too strong from the Green Chile, however, we found that it did mask the fact that the Mac and Cheese didn’t have much flavor. There were hints of bacon in each bite. We thought the main flavor throughout the whole sandwich came from the Green Chiles and Chicken.
It was a pretty filling and a good portion size, too.
For dessert, we grabbed the Apple Crumble Ice Cream Parfait for $8.99. This Cinnamon Shake is layered with Apple Pie Filling, Granola Crumble, and Caramel topped with Whipped Cream.
This reminded us of an apple pie. The shake was heavier on the cinnamon flavor than the apple flavor. The cinnamon and the caramel combine for a sweet shake with hints of a sweet apple flavor. If you’re a fan of cinnamon and apple pie this is for you.
We did feel like the cinnamon flavor was too overpowering and left us wanting more apple pie filling. You might want to skip this unless you LOVE cinnamon.
Nosh or Not…
You should jump on over to Smokejumpers Grill if…
- You are looking for something NEW. This location typically has seasoning offerings so we like to come here to mix it up and try something new.
- You are in a hurry. Since this restaurant is quick service and you can mobile order here, you are likely to spend less time on your meal than you would a table service restaurant.
- You want to sit outside. There is a ton of outdoor seating offered here. So if it’s a nice California day and you want to enjoy the weather while you eat, this is a good option.
You should head elsewhere if…
- You can’t mobile order. This restaurant is busy and typically has a long wait if you can’t order ahead. If you don’t want to wait and can’t order ahead, we recommend checking out something else.
- You want a variety of food. They mostly serve sandwiches and fries here so if you’re craving something more unique, you might be disappointed here.
OVERALL
We love this restaurant for the theming and outdoor space. We enjoyed the seasonal chicken sandwich but were left wanting more with the ice cream parfait. We would recommend checking this place out the next time you’re by Soarin’, and keep an eye out for seasonal items that could make your mouth water.

This is one of our go-to’s at DCA. The double Impossible burger is really good, and generous enough to split if you’re not super hungry.
