Have you noticed a trend with Disney merch lately?
There’s so much merchandise on sale, it’s kind of unusual, especially during the peak summer season when the park is usually packed. I mean, we go there every day, and we’re seeing more discounted stuff than ever before. Random Loungefly bags and Mickey ears are all marked down. You know, they often have sales — especially in EPCOT when a festival nears its end, but this time it’s like a retail bonanza. It got me wondering, are they having trouble selling all this stuff now compared to a few months ago?
You may not believe that words like “sale” or “discount” can be part of the same sentence as “Disney World,” but I’ve been noticing that there are tons of products on sale right now at Disney World. So much so, it’s really got me wondering about the reasons behind it all.
I think one possible reason behind this merchandise surplus is the ongoing impact of the pandemic. Even though things might seem “back to normal” for the most part, supply chain issues are still causing disruptions. Remember when everything came to a standstill, factories shut down, and shipping became a nightmare? Well, that has created a backlog, and now there’s excess inventory to deal with. So, to clear out their stock, Disney is putting more items on sale than they normally would.
But it’s not just Disney dealing with these challenges. Have you noticed how even retail giants like Target have been offering more discounts lately? It’s all part of the same thing. The retail industry as a whole is still trying to recover and adjust. They’re facing higher shipping costs, labor shortages, and unpredictable demand. So, discounting has become a common strategy to entice customers and boost sales.
You know what’s interesting? Even though it’s the middle of summer, the busiest time at Disney World, consumer preferences can change. Maybe people are looking for different things or have shifted their spending priorities. Disney, being the smart company they are, wants to keep up with these changing demands. They might be trying out new products or responding to visitor feedback, which could lead to temporary excess inventory and more discounts.
In the end, I think it’s a combination of ongoing supply chain challenges from the pandemic and the retail industry’s need to adapt. It’s actually pretty cool for us visitors because we get to enjoy some unique bargains. It’s like finding hidden treasures amidst all the hustle and bustle. Plus, it reminds us that even though the pandemic is becoming a thing of the past, its effects are still lingering in unexpected ways.
So, let’s embrace the opportunity to snag those discounted Loungefly bags and Minnie ears, and appreciate the complex interplay between supply and demand in the ever-evolving retail world. And as always, stay tuned with us here at DFB for all things Disney!

I love that Frozen balloon that’s at Hollywood Studios. I remember it used to also be at Magic Kingdom. I hope they bring those Frozen balloons back to Magic kingdom or at least have it at both Magic Kingdom and Hollywood studios

The “pandemic” may be waning, but COVID is not. The wastewater numbers are skyrocketing currently where I live, it’s just that people are unfortunately not testing.
