Any Disney Adult knows that Disney World isn’t just for kids.
And when you think about it, it kinda makes sense that the place where fairy tales come true is a pretty ideal spot to start your very own “happily ever after.” If you’re looking to start your marriage out with some fun and magic, a Disney World honeymoon might just be the best destination for you!
If that sounds like you and your new spouse, here’s what you need to know about planning a Disney honeymoon (a.k.a. Disneymoon), including some of the best things to see and do. Your fairy-tale honeymoon awaits at the most magical place on Earth.
The Best Times of Year to Go on a Disney Honeymoon
First things first — you have to decide when you will go. The obvious answer might be “after the wedding.” But that’s not necessarily the best answer. While Florida tends to have beautiful weather year-round, we recommend planning your Disney honeymoon at the beginning of the year between January and April or September to early November before the holiday season kicks off. Most of the families that travel with kids will be back in school, and the weather is typically milder than your average sweltering Florida summer day.
If this doesn’t coordinate with your exact wedding date, don’t fret! Sometimes it’s nice to space out your honeymoon from your wedding. It gives you a chance to spend time with loved ones who traveled in to see you, time to recover from a very emotional day, and even time to save a bit of money! Weddings are expensive, and honeymoons can be, too! Spacing out your honeymoon a few months away from your wedding can help ensure that you have the energy and money to really enjoy it!
January to April
This time of year is when the weather is at its mildest but still warm enough to enjoy the pool or golf course. EPCOT is hosting either Festival of the Arts or the International Flower and Garden Festival during this time frame. You can expect crowds to perk up during Spring Break season (mid-March through April), on holiday weekends, and during a runDisney event. But for the most part, the crowds and weather are really manageable.
September to November
The kids are back in school, but summer still lingers in Orlando. EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival is in full swing, and depending on when you visit during this window, you can expect some spooky autumnal decorations or festival jolly holiday decorations.
You’ll have a magical time whenever you visit, but if you’re looking for our advice (which you must be since you’re here), then these are times we recommend!
Best Hotels and Resorts in Disney for Honeymoon
There are more than 20 resorts you can stay in on Disney World property. But where should you be staying on your next Disney vacation? And which resorts will give you that honeymoon vibe you’re looking for? There’s an argument for practically every resort, but we narrowed it down to one (or two 😂) for each category.
Value Resorts
There’s honestly not a lot romantic going on at these resorts except our attraction to the price. But if you’re planning to stay at a Value Resort for your honeymoon, our pick is Pop Century. It’s a budget-friendly resort that highlights some of the icons and trends from the hip decades of the past with larger-than-life decor.
Pop Century made our romance list because of its access to the Disney Skyliner, and we also love the adorable Lady and the Tramp icon, which has us singing Bella Notte.

Moderate Resorts
Moderate resorts balance amenities, price, and charm and might just be the sweet spot for those honeymooning, but not wanting to blow the bank. Our pick for this category is Port Orleans French Quarter. You can stroll down the romantic walkways and boulevards of New Orleans (but much cleaner than Bourbon Street) at this resort that celebrates Mardi Gras every day.
Port Orleans French Quarter is inspired by the sights and sounds of the New Orleans Jazz scene and features a Mardi Gras-themed pool, jazz club, and even horse-drawn carriage rides! And if large equines are your idea of romance, you can also enjoy a cozy cruise on the Sassagoula on a boat ride up to Port Orleans Riverside or down to the Disney Springs shopping district.
If jazz music, beignets, and the Big Easy are your kinda romance, then Port Orleans French Quarter is for you!

Deluxe Resorts
Choosing our pick from the Deluxe resorts was one of the hardest decisions. They each offer some of the best dining options, immersive theming, and top resort perks. If you’re looking for a splurge for your vacation, then a deluxe resort will truly deliver. And if a Disney-style honeymoon wasn’t the runaway winner when it came to deciding your honeymoon, finding the right deluxe resort can help give you a little something extra! Anticipating the fanciest of fancy, consider the Grand Floridian. If you are looking for a cozy, natural experience, consider Wilderness Lodge. If a seaside escape was a top contender, consider the Beach Club. Or perhaps an exotic escape was on your radar, consider Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Our top pick from the Deluxe options was the Polynesian Village Resort. Some of the top honeymoon destinations (outside of Disney World) are tropical locations like Bora Bora, Hawai’i, and the Maldives. By staying at the Polynesian, you can get those same casual tiki vibes without needing a passport.
The Polynesian offers some of our favorite dining options like ‘Ohana and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. And it’s just across the lagoon from Magic Kingdom, so you’ll get epic views of the castle and those nightly fireworks shows. It’s also super conveniently close to the Grand Floridian spa if you’re looking for some pampering or the nearby Magnolia Golf Course if you want to spend some time on the greens.
Villa Resorts
And our last accommodation option, the Disney Vacation Club Villas. Many of the deluxe resorts offer Villa accommodations. Villas offer many comforts of home. Each Resort features spacious Villas that are designed to comfortably accommodate a wide variety of party sizes—from couples and solo travelers to families and groups of up to 12 Guests. Choose from 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Villas with the following features:
Separate bedrooms that offer privacy
- A full kitchen, so you can prepare meals and snacks from the comfort of your Villa
- Spacious living and dining areas where your family can reconnect
- A washer and dryer – so you can pack lightly and avoid airline baggage fees
The Villa that topped our list is the Riviera Resort. Inspired by Europe — and, in fact, by Walt Disney and his wife Lillian’s own travels along the French Riviera — deluxe amenities, memorable Resort activities, a wide range of fantastic and flavorful dining (including Character Dining), lovely and relaxing pools, and much more are all part of the Riviera Resort experience.
Riviera Resort is home to one of the stations for the Disney Skyliner – a gondola connecting EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios with four Disney Resorts (including Riviera). A honeymoon here gives you that taste of Europe while just steps away from the Disney parks.
The Complete Guide to Eating at Disney’s Riviera Resort
If your budget cannot accommodate the resort of your dreams, don’t be afraid to book a split stay. You can stay at more than one hotel during your trip, perhaps staying at a more economical resort at the start of your trip, then moving to a more posh resort for the last few days of your stay for the ultimate indulgence.
Best Restaurants in Disney for Honeymoon
Even though Disney World is more known for kids and family, there are some pretty romantic dining options available here that offer award-winning cuisine, impeccable service, one-of-a-kind dining locations, or memorable views. We had quite a list, but we’re gonna scale it back to just our top ten (otherwise, this post might get outta hand!):
Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
There are several notable things about V&A’s: 1.) It’s the only AAA 5-diamond restaurant in Orlando (and one of only a handful in Florida), 2.) It’s the only Disney World restaurant where children (under age 10) are not welcome in the dining room, and 3.) Its chef’s table is the hottest ticket around (more on that later). In fact, the only reason why you might shy away is the because of the price tag. But you only get married once, right?
California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
California Grill is one of our very favorite restaurants in Disney World, and we have to say that it’s super romantic while the sun is setting behind the Grand Floridian Resort and the wide Florida sky turns every shade of purple, pink, and orange. But you also can’t resist the fireworks view!
Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House
Folks, this got A LOT of votes from our team as the most romantic restaurant in Disney World. Jiko is dark — very dark — and beautiful. Where other restaurants have fireworks and shows, Jiko has a simple wall in the back of the restaurant that slowly changes color throughout the night to mimic the African sunset. The menu reflects African staple ingredients used in simple, but creative ways. The filet mignon is always a winner. Even if it doesn’t come with the mac and cheese, you can order it as a side dish.
Le Cellier Steakhouse at EPCOT, Canada Pavilion
The dining room at Le Cellier is quite small, and themed to look as if you’re dining in a Canadian wine cellar the likes of those at Le Château Frontenac and Fairmont Château Laurier. Wooden tables are surrounded by stone walls and candle sconces. The food is uniformly delicious at this Signature restaurant, in my opinion. Steaks are great, appetizers (Like the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup) are innovative and hearty, and we’re always up for the Signature Poutine and the unique varieties of the dish served here.
Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
Narcoossee’s is an upscale, yet casual, seafood restaurant located in that very cool circular building that juts out into Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Seafood is the specialty, but the steaks are wonderful as well. This place has a bit of an echo, but it’s a beautiful spot for dinner. Aside from the menu, the restaurant has received a refreshment as well, and it will continue to make the most of the waterfront views through the panoramic windows. Depending on the timing, you might even get to see the Electric Water Pageant and the Magic Kingdom Fireworks!
Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort
Topolino’s Terrace is located atop Disney’s Riviera Resort! This rooftop restaurant features signature dining for dinner, fireworks views in the evening, and a prix fixe Character Breakfast — Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends! Topolino’s Terrace is inspired by “cliffside restaurants of the Riviera,” and the cuisine features regional favorites. The name Topolino means Mickey Mouse in Italian, so this elegant dining experience still has a Disney flair!
Tutto Italia at EPCOT, Italy Pavilion
Mangia! Tutto Italia offers authentic Italian cuisine in a richly decorated dining room in the middle of EPCOT’s Italy pavilion. Sample your favorite pasta dish, or branch out with a delicious grilled or vegetable dish.
Monsieur Paul at EPCOT, France Pavilion
You’ll find the signature Monsieur Paul Restaurant — a fitting tribute to Chef Paul Bocuse — in EPCOT’s France pavilion located upstairs from Les Chefs de France. Each meal starts with a glass of champagne (for of-age guests) and then progresses through five courses with The Gastronomic Meal of The French. The view is beautiful, the food is delectable, and the service is excellent at this Signature dining restaurant.
Best Experiences at Disney World for Honeymoons
Disney World is more than theme parks and attractions, though if that’s all you plan to do, you’ll still have a pretty full agenda! Disney also offers a wide range of other recreational activities and special experiences. Some are included with your resort stay, like access to the fitness centers or using the tennis courts (just bring your rackets), and other experiences are more of a splurge, but if not on your honeymoon, when?
Fireworks Party/Cruise
Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties offer guests a chance to enjoy the nighttime fireworks spectacular, Happily Ever After, with terrific views and, of course, fabulous food! There are three versions of the Dessert Party from which to choose:
- Magic Kingdom Fireworks Pre-Party Dessert Party
- Magic Kingdom Fireworks Seats & Sweets Party
- Magic Kingdom Fireworks Post-Party
All three offer reserved viewing area, and some fantastic desserts. Of, if a cruise is more your style, you can take your view and your nosh on a boat on the Seven Seas Lagoon with the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise.
After Hours Event/Holiday Party Tickets
Depending on when you visit, you may have a chance to purchase another ticket for some exclusive events for only a select few. Disney After Hour Events permit guests access to the parks for up to 3 hours after the park closes to other guests to experience all that the park has to offer with few lines, and some tasty treats tossed in for good measure. There are current After Hour Events at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Or if you’re looking for something a little more festive, Magic Kingdom hosts two holiday parties, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party during those seasonal times of the year. Again, you get some extra time in the park, but this time with seasonal entertainment, fireworks, parades, characters and snacks!
Capture Your Moment Photo Shoot
Ever dreamed of having your own personal photoshoot in front of Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle, or in any of the other Walt Disney World theme parks? You can always get lots of cool pictures around the Disney parks with the help of PhotoPass photographers, but now you can have a personal and dedicated photographer with a Capture Your Moment session for up to 8 guests!
Special Tours
There are several special tours and experiences you can book through Disney. Want to be treated like a celebrity, get dashed around all four parks in private transportation and never have to wait in line with your private Disney World guide? Then you need to look at booking at VIP Tour! Or what about learning more about some of nature’s more magnificent creatures? Then take a look at some of the Animal Kingdom packages. And if you want to see how the magic is made, look no further than a Keys to the Kingdom tour!
Day at the Spa or Golf Course
If your idea of an ideal honeymoon includes putting around PGA quality golf courses, or getting pampered on a spa day, Disney can offer you that, too. Senses Spa is located at the Grand Floridian Resort and just across the street is one of the main Disney golf courses. So, if you really want to do it up big, you can do both!
Water Parks
There’s an aqua adventure just beyond the theme parks. If you want to feel the waves splash against you or coast around in a lazy river (without having to deal with beach crowds), then the Disney Water Parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon could be worth a splurge for you. You can add a pass for these parks onto your existing park tickets or buy them separately. And for the ultimate romantic getaway, consider booking a private cabana or Polar Patio to have your own little space.
Best Souvenirs from a Disney for Honeymoon
You’re gonna need to commemorate such a momentous trip with some special souvenirs — but they don’t have to cost a fortune. We found a few of our favorites for you to review, which ones will be perfect moments for you and your loved one.
Celebration/Just Married Buttons
These little beauties are free of charge, and you can pick them up at your resort’s check-in desk, any Guest Relations location, or many of the gift shops around Disney. Wear them proudly for well-wishes throughout your honeymoon and perhaps a little extra magic during your stay. Ya never know!
Star Wars Lightsaber
Is the Force strong with your family? Creating your own custom lightsaber (whether you’re a Jedi or a Sith) is more than just a souvenir, it’s an experience. Yes, you need a reservation for this experience, and yes, it costs a pretty penny. But the result is a souvenir that is also a collector’s item – and a super fun photo shoot prop, if you’re that kinda couple!
Personalized Bride & Groom Mouse Ears
Just like the celebration buttons, the Bride and Groom Mouse Ears can get you plenty of attention in the parks. Have them customized with your wedding date, “Mr. & Mrs.” or other something else close to your heart. These items are more expensive than the free buttons, but cheaper than the lightsabers, but they are still super fun.
Customized Ornament
You can find Christmas ornaments year-round at Disney World, and you can get them customized with your wedding date. There are so many ornaments to choose from. You can find wedding themed ones with Mickey & Minnie as Bride & Groom, or grab one that represents your favorite attraction, Disney movie, or even Disney resort. And then reminisce year after year as you put it on your tree every holiday season.
Best Way to Pay for a Disney for Honeymoon
We’re not gonna bring you all this way without helping you with some tips on how to pay for it! Chances are your wedding costs might’ve dried up your coffers, and if you don’t need another blender or set of bath towels, consider doing a Honeymoon Registry instead! Disney has one that you can set up. Send the link to guests and friends (like you would any other registry) and select what special experiences you want to have on your Disney Honeymoon that guests can buy for you! You can register for anything from a special dining experience to helping you pay for your resort.
Now that you have your Disney honeymoon all planned (and paid for!) don’t forget to relax and enjoy it!
