It’s been an incredibly hot summer at Disney World, but we just tried a few NEW treats that will help you cool off!
EPCOT has been busy gearing up for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, which is getting ready to kick off SOON! One of the countries in the World Showcase has also been busy working on some boozy new menu items. We recently had a chance to try out a few of the latest treats to help you decide if they may be worth the splurge.
We ventured out to EPCOT recently to try out a few new floats that have popped up at Gelateria Toscana. You may very well have walked right past it as you’re walking around the World Showcase — it’s easy to miss! This location is typically known for its extensive gelato menu and can be especially busy on a hot summer day.
Recently, Gelateria Toscana introduced TWO new alcoholic floats to the menu, and we had an opportunity to try them both! The first one we tried was the Bronte.
This float is made of Fabrizia pistachio-flavored liquor with a scoop of creamy Pistachio-cello gelato served in an acrylic cup. And if you were wondering about this drink’s name, it was named after the location in Italy where the pistachios are imported. Once they’ve been harvested, they’re toasted before becoming processed into the liquor. If you’re looking to grab this one for yourself, it will cost you $19.
The presentation here looked pretty sophisticated, and the taste was just as decadent! The frozen gelato is placed in the middle of the cup and is surrounded by chilled liquor. The gelato was super creamy and didn’t taste overly pistachio-flavored but was more poignant with the addition of the nuts rolled into the scoop. The liquor also gave a slight pistachio taste but wasn’t overly assertive or overpowering. Both the liquor and the gelato paired quite nicely together.
While we LOVED that pistachio flavor, note that this was not the strongest drink we’ve tried in EPCOT. If you’re looking for a stronger alcoholic taste, then you probably wouldn’t enjoy this one; it was a bit weaker when compared to the other float.
Then it was time to try out the Amalfi.
The lemons used in this limoncello liquor are harvested from family-owned lemon groves in South Eastern Sicily. Once they’ve reached their peak ripeness, they’re transported to the distillery in New Hampshire to be made into the limoncello liquor that goes into this float. This float is made of the aforementioned Fabrizia limoncello liquor with a scoop of homemade Limoncello-Raspberry Gelato. It will also cost you $19.
WHEW! This drink packs a strong limoncello flavor. The raspberry shavings sprinkled on the top of the scoop added texture and gave a nice burst of juicy flavor. The gelato has a strong limoncello flavor as well, so if you didn’t get enough with just the liquor, the gelato is there to back it up and reinforce that lemony flavor.
This was a great drink but certainly stronger than the pistachio-flavored Bronte float. We enjoyed the refreshing taste of the limoncello, but we could see that if you’re not used to a strong lemon flavor, it could be difficult. While the raspberry shavings were fine for texture, they didn’t add much to the overall taste if you’re expecting it in every sip.
Overall we enjoyed these refreshing treats and wouldn’t mind stopping in to grab them again the next time we’re at EPCOT! Admittedly, they are on the pricier side at $19 each. We stopped by to have gelato and were very disappointed. The pistachio gelato was not green and tasted more like a vanilla ice cream. It didn’t have the flavor or consistency of a gelato. My husband was going to order pistachio as well but instead decided on cookies and cream. After he tasted mine, he said he didn’t taste any pistachio in it either and was glad he ordered something else. While his vanilla gelato also tasted and had the consistency of ice cream, it was good – just not a gelato. In addition, the girl taking orders was rude. There was a couple ordering at the window on the right so we went to the left window. Both windows had signs that said “order here.” The girl comes over with a cup of gelato (ice cream) and we just looked at her. She says the name on the order and we said that it wasn’t us. She the rudely asked if we ordered and we said no. The response (again rudely) was “Well, you need to go over to the other window and order first!” We would have known that if the window we were standing at said “Pick up here” instead of “Order here.” To quote my Dad’s Hungarian saying when he didn’t care for something, “I’ve been there three times – the first time, the last time and never again.”
