Can you believe it? August is just a week away!
With the arrival of August, you can start looking forward to the holiday events that are coming up like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! We’re here with all the tips and tricks and warnings to keep in mine before your Disney World trip in August.
When it comes to making mistakes at Disney World, trust us. We’ve made them all before. And that’s why we’re here so that you don’t have to make them. Let’s go over five typical mistakes that you’ll want to avoid at all costs so that you can have the most amazing time in Disney World next month.
1 — Don’t Underestimate that Florida Weather
You may be tempted to think that with August, summer should basically be over and that means no more rain. Well, Florida has a mind of its own. The rainy season in Central Florida continues all the way until November 30th, the end of hurricane season. Also, the most active part of the hurricane season is between August and October, so you’d be right in the thick of it. This all means you need to plan ahead and pack accordingly for all that the weather may throw at you!
Let’s go over a couple of packing suggestions:
You’ll want to have rain gear!
Don’t rely on the weather holding out just because the mornings look clear. Most days have a daily afternoon rain shower that usually doesn’t last long, but it can really dump on you if you’re not prepared.
Be sure to pack ponchos, umbrellas, hats, shoes that are waterproof, and clothing that can dry quickly. Here are some ideas of gear you can add to your cart.
But what about the sun?
Even though we’ve been talking about the rain, make no mistake, Florida is a hot and sunny place. We’d highly recommend you focus on hydration and sun protection.
Here are your must-haves: A water bottle, sun protection like hats and sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. And a pro tip: You can use those umbrellas to block out some of that sun too!
2 — It will be crowded
August is still in the thick of the summer break for most students, which means it’s still prime vacation season for families.
Keep in mind, the parks will be CROWDED! You’ll see long lines and restaurants will be full, so make sure to get those Individual Lightning Lanes and Genie+ to beat those long lines.
3 — Halloween is here
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place on select nights in Magic Kingdom from mid-August through the first of November, which means that Magic Kingdom will close early on these nights at 6PM and will only be open after that to those with tickets to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so if you’re planning on being at Disney World, you may want to avoid Magic Kingdom on those days.
The dates for the parties in 2023 have already been released, so these are the dates you’ll want to avoid in Magic Kingdom if you don’t want to have your day there shortened: August 11th, 15th, 18th, 22nd, 25th, and 29th.
4 — Don’t forget about power
You know you’ll be on your phone a lot during those park days. You’ll have to order food, check wait times, and snap lots of photos, which will all put a serious drain on your phone’s power.
Make sure to pack a portable charger and all the cables you need. These are some of our favorite portable chargers!
5 — Make sure you stay for dessert
One of the worst things to happen is trying to get a last-minute reservation for your favorite restaurant and finding that they’re all booked out or the restaurant is closed! Don’t let that happen to you!
Make sure to stay on top of the latest changes to the restaurants and get those reservations booked as early as possible! But if you didn’t make reservations in advance, we do have some strategies to help right here.Â
Now you can make sure not to make any of those mistakes and have the best time ever. Hopefully, you’re feeling a little more prepared for anything that might come your way on your August trip to Disney World.
