Let’s be honest — Disney World is EXPENSIVE.
The hotels are expensive — so are the park tickets themselves — and that doesn’t even count any souvenirs you plan to get. So what is actually worth buying at Disney World? We’ve got a whole list!
Keep in mind that all of these items and experiences depend on you and your family, so they may not all be fit for you on your trip, but you just might find something you can’t do without!
That Souvenir You Can’t Forget About
Now, we’re not just talking about any souvenir. Have you ever noticed one souvenir throughout your whole vacation and can’t stop thinking about it? That’s what we’re talking about here.
One of our team members saw a Magic Kingdom snow globe on the first day of her vacation and couldn’t stop thinking about it. She knew she would return to Magic Kingdom on the last day of her vacation again, so she decided to grab it then. We recommend this strategy so you’re not making impulse buys, but only if you know you’ll be returning to the same park or store later in your vacation because not every store carries every souvenir — and there’s always a chance it could sell out if it’s popular!

PhotoPass
PhotoPass can be very worth the price for a few different reasons.
If this is your first trip in a while or will be your only trip for a good bit of time, having these ride photos and professionally taken photos to remember your trip can be a priceless investment. However, if you go a lot or photos aren’t something you particularly cherish, this one may not be worth it for you.

Savanna View Rooms at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a beautiful deluxe resort in Disney World. This means, yes, it’s very expensive, but if you’re looking to really experience this resort, the Savanna View Rooms are the way to go.
These rooms cost more than the other rooms, but they give you a phenomenal view of the savanna, meaning you could wake up to the view of giraffes eating! Now, if you’re not planning to spend much time in your resort, this likely isn’t for you.

Preferred Rooms
On the same topic of hotels, it may be worth the extra cost to you to get a Preferred Room, meaning you’ll be closer to the hotel’s amenities or transportation.
This can be especially helpful if you want to diminish your time heading to and from the parks, or if you have someone in your party with mobility issues.
Park Hopper Tickets
Park hopper tickets can also be very well worth the price if you want to experience everything you can at the parks!
Sometimes you may finish at one park earlier than you expect, and a park hopper ticket means you can head over to another park to continue the fun and experience some new attractions.
Genie+
HEAR US OUT! Genie+ can absolutely be worth the price in certain situations and parks.
If you want to do everything in Disney World (and not everyone does!), Genie+ can help you out immensely when it’s busy in Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom (we don’t necessarily think it’s necessary for EPCOT and Animal Kingdom).

Dining Packages Before Shows
We also think that Dining Packages for shows like Fantasmic! and during EPCOT festivals (like Food and Wine coming up!) are great ways to spend your money.
This way you’re combining a meal, which you already need to eat in the parks anyway, and you’re guaranteed to get a great spot to watch the show! If you’re a big fan of Disney dining and shows, this is a great investment.
Character Dining
We also think Character Dining meals are a great way to spend money if it’s something your party is into.
Some people aren’t big into being interrupted by characters while they’re eating, and that’s okay! We’d also like to clarify though that we mean the more reasonably priced character dining, like one of our favorites, Garden Grill in EPCOT!

Cooling Towels
Now, these are items we recommend you get BEFORE heading to Disney to save money on them, but cooling towels are absolute necessities for summer in Disney World.
We have some favorite cooling towels that we recommend (they’re linked above and below), and we find we use them more than fans, but hey, anything that will keep you cool is a good investment!

Reusable Water Bottle
Lastly, we’ve got reusable water bottles on this list, which you should also buy before you go to Disney unless you want to grab a Disney-specific design.
Listen, you can get free water around the Disney parks (PLEASE do not pay for bottled water!), but if you have a water bottle to put that water in that will keep it cold? Trust us, it’s life changing.
Check out our favorite water bottles here!

I am delighted to see that the pre show ‘dining packaged’ made it onto your worth it list! I am concerning getting Firework desert party reservations mainly for the great firework viewing point advantage!! I am really struggling to get reservations though despite being on the site at 6am EST and 60 days out. Are these really really hard to get, am I just unlucky or is it one of those packages where international guests have to ring Disney to make bookings for like I had to do for Savi’s Workshop…??
Any help or advice gratefully received! Thanks for another great and very useful report!

Hi Karen! Those reservations are really hard to get, even in the U.S. because the space is so limited.
