We’re eating and drinking our way around the world and we’re LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
The 2023 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is here and we’re taking it all it has to offer. You’ll find plenty of delicious eats, merchandise, and even concerts to check out. But we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know — and now we’re heading to the China Booth to share all the details! What should you order here? We’re about to tell you!
Menu
Over at the China Booth, you’ll find a variety of available items. This year, there’s one new food item and one new drink, but a few returning items as well!
Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!
Eats
Let’s start things off with the NEW Crispy Duck Bao Bun with Hoisin Sauce for $8.75. This is one of the best bao buns we’ve had at Disney World!
The bao itself is super pillowy and leans on the sweeter side, and it has a good bounceback when we bite it. The duck almost falls apart when you eat it, and the sweet sauce with the salty duck balances really well. The green onions make everything a little bit brighter. We absolutely loved this! Seriously, EVERYONE should go try this. Don’t walk, RUN (but don’t actually run because that’s not allowed in Disney World). We mean it!
We also tried the Pan-fried Chicken Dumplings with house-made sweet-and-spicy sauce for $5.25. We tried these at the festival last year and thought they were really good. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce had just the right amount of flavor. This year…
…they’re pretty standard, although they were like 70% meat, which was really nice! Unfortunately, there’s nothing too special about these. There’s not a lot of flavor and we couldn’t really taste the sauce at all. The sesame seeds added some earthiness and the green onions were fresh, but that’s about it.
Finally, we tried the Dandan Noodles, which have spicy pork with Sichuan sauce, peanut butter, sesame, and green onion for $8.25. This was a new dish last year, and we were really hopeful about it — but it was a swing and a miss for us back in 2022. The meat had a grainy texture that was not pleasant, and the noodles were just a little too spicy to be eating on a hot day.
But this year, they upgraded slightly to “middle of the road.” They’re creamy and they lean heavily on the peanut butter flavor, not nearly as spicy as before. The noodles are nice but cooked a little bit on the softer side. We would’ve liked to see a little bit more meat, but overall this was fine. If they keep climbing up the ladder, maybe next year they’ll be amazing!
We need something to wash it all down with, of course.
Drinks
There’s one new drink at the China booth this year, the Fiery Dream. It’s made with Citrus Vodka, Triple Sec, guava nectar, and spicy hot honey syrup for $13.75. In our book, this was INCREDIBLE. Nice and fruity and refreshing in the beginning. After you swallow, there’s a little bit of heat in the back of your throat.
The Passion Fruit Bubble Tea is returning this year and you can get it for $7.25. In the past, we thought this drink was alright — the tea itself was light and refreshing but not overly flavorful. As for the boba, it sort of congealed into a slimy mess and made the drink pretty unpleasant. You might need to be FAST to get the full effects of this one.
Or, get the Fireworks, which is made with Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, Citrus Vodka, orange juice, and mango syrup for $14. Despite having both orange and mango flavors in our drink (which are typically pretty sweet), all we could taste were tequila and vodka when we tried this one last year. This time around, we had pretty much the same experience. It’s pretty alcohol-heavy, and we definitely didn’t enjoy it as much as the Fiery Dream. We would like some more fruitiness here.
You can also grab the ByeJoe Punch made with Chinese BaiJiu Spirit, Piña Colada Mix, lychee syrup, and sparkling water for $13. This is really sweet and heavy on the coconut flavors. We think it probably needed to be blended a little more, but it’s surprisingly tropical!
And finally, there’s also the Brew Hub Lychee Foo Draft Beer, Lakeland, FL for $5.25 (6oz) or $9.75 (12oz).
Overall
So that’s a wrap on our China review! Our top picks from this booth are definitely the Duck Bao and the Fiery Dream — we would go back again and again for those two items alone. They were some of the best things we had all day!
As far as the other eats and drinks go, nothing stood out to us or wowed us exceptionally, but we’d try those noodles and dumplings again if they were placed in front of us.
It’s time for the China booth! 🇨🇳
