HUGE changes are coming to EPCOT, and we’re not even talking about all that EPCOT construction going on right now!
Yes, EPCOT is still in the middle of its big transformation. Yes, the Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana attraction is coming in the fall. Yes, the CommuniCore Hall and Communicore Plaza Festival Area will open later this year. But we’re talking about something MASSIVE that’s happening on September 22nd and it will change a LOT around EPCOT.
So on September 22nd, EPCOT will become the CENTER of Disney World’s celebration of the Walt Disney Company’s 100th Anniversary.
As a result, you’re going to see a lot of NEW things at the park (and, hey, it’s a great reason to visit EPCOT in the fall, too!). Now, you can already see the big “100” at the front of EPCOT.
However, on September 22nd, you’ll also get to see a brand new platinum Mickey Mouse statue in World Celebration in front of Spaceship Earth. There will also be new PhotoPass and Magic Shots available at this location to celebrate Disney’s 100th Anniversary.
While we’re looking at Spaceship Earth…well, that’s going to change, too. You’ve probably already seen Spaceship Earth’s pretty lighting scheme that can be customized for special occasions. Well, on September 22nd, Spaceship Earth will have a NEW lighting show with colors and lights accompanied by the 100th Anniversary anthem, which will be a new rendition of “When You Wish Upon A Star.” Okay, we’re not crying, YOU ARE.
Nearby, in World Celebration, you’ll see a new Disney100 mural with all your favorite Disney characters along the walkway.
Meanwhile, over in the Imagination! pavilion, a NEW meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie will be available — and they’ll be dressed in their special 100th Anniversary outfits.
If you love popcorn buckets, you’ll want to head on over to the popcorn carts to grab the Disney100 Mickey Balloon Popcorn Bucket.
But wait, there’s more! The EPCOT Food & Wine Festival will still be going strong when the 100th festivities in EPCOT start, and you’ll be able to try out four NEW food booths on September 22nd. So there will be NEW celebratory food to try, too! We’re talking caviar, champagne, and more! Here are the booth details:

We also wouldn’t be surprised if some new special snacks weren’t announced for the big day, too. New food? Now THAT is something to get excited about. We also know that EPCOT is supposed to be getting a new nighttime show for the 100th Anniversary this year, too, but Disney has not yet revealed the date that show will premiere.
We’ll be in EPCOT on September 22nd covering EVERYTHING about the 100th anniversary there, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

That’s the day my husband and I will be there! It’s also my birthday! I was already excited about Epcot on my birthday, but this kicks it up to a whole new level!!
Tracey says
How long will the 100 th celebration last in Epcot . As we’re coming on 6th October and was wondering if we will get to see them .
Pamela J Hill Leffler says
So excited! This coincides with our extended family trip to WDW!!!!
Can’t wait!
Heidi says
I am so sad I’ll be missing the new food booths because I booked my trip in early September, thinking I would get to try all the F&W Festival eats. I am especially sad to not get the Moët & Chandon Impérial and Caviar since I feel like it is a nod to Freddie Mercury…not a happy mouse….
DFB Gigi says
Hi Tracey! The 100th celebration is expected to last a full year at least so there should be some things lingering around while you’re there.
Tracey says
Yay, arrive from the UK on the 23rd, so excited to see even more than we expected.
Roy says
Poor EPCOT. The 40th anniversary was completely drowned out by the resort’s 50th which went on for a year or more and now this 100th. Ugh.
