We’ve tried some unique food at Disney World over the years.
There was that time we had a whole octopus tentacle in our drink. Another time, we ate a Sea Captain Catch sandwich that was served on a black bun. Recently, Disney introduced a whole new set of fun snacks for us to try at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival. But one item, in particular, has the internet abuzz, and we think it might be the best (and also maybe kind of the WORST) thing they’ve ever made. Enter the Pickle Milkshake.
This year, the Brew-Wing booth at the Food and Wine Festival has new hosts — Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker of the Muppets — and they brought a certain playfulness with them. There were some unique wings to try, like the Peanut Butter and Jelly Sticky Wings and the Unnecessarily Spicy, Yet Extremely Tasty Scotch Bonnet Pepper-Curry Wings, but the thing everyone is talking about is that Pickle Milkshake. You can find it at this festival booth for $5.75.
So why is this the best/worst thing Disney has ever made? Well, it’s…kind of weird? Because it’s so different, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea — while we do have a few pickle lovers on our team, not everyone loved it! In fact, some straight-up hated it. Some thought it tasted more like dill than pickles, but everyone agreed that it was very unique.
Imagine drinking right out of the pickle jar, but instead of a briny liquid, it’s the consistency of ice cream. Intrigued? That’s the point! It has become such a sensation that tons of guests can’t wait to try it to see for themselves what it’s like. Every time we’ve been in the Odyssey building since the festival started (where this booth is located), it has been packed. Sure, plenty could be there to try the wings, but we’ve seen a lot of folks leaving with this green shake.
The fact is, it’s just fun to take part in a cultural phenomenon that is kind of outside of the norm. Hey, look at how the Gramice Shake took off. And since it’s served in such a cute souvenir cup (and you get a lot of it), it’s one of those things that people can buy as a token of taking part.
So yes, the shake is weird, and maybe even bad depending on who you are, but Disney still created something fun and unique that stood out at this year’s festival.
