Summer is coming to an end, but what does that mean for travel?
The Orlando International Airport (MCO) is certainly busy throughout most of the year, being one of the main airports for tourists visiting Disney World, Universal Orlando, Sea World, or one of the many other Central Florida attractions. These crowds can make traveling through the airport quite stressful. It turns out, though, that if you traveled through MCO this past year, you may have been part of some of the largest crowds to EVER visit the airport!
According to a report by the Orlando Business Journal, Orlando Aiport’s traffic hit a new height in 2023 — the airport reached 54.6 million passengers for the rolling 12-month cycle, which ended in June. This count is up 12.4% from 48.57 million people from last year’s period.
Domestic travel represented 48% of travelers (up 11% from last year) and the percentage of international travelers was up 72.3% from last year’s cycle. Overall, the Orlando International Airport had an average of 1,024 flights EVERY DAY.
So what does this mean? It’s very positive for the hospitality industry (local hotels, restaurants, shops, attractions, and more). Passengers were flying in and out of the airport mostly through Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and Delta Airlines (in that order).
