Once more, you may find yourself questioning some things that are happening over at EPCOT.
No, we’re not talking about all the construction that’s going on with the massive transformation going on in the park. And we’re not focusing on just when CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will be complete. (It should open by the end of 2023 but no exact date has been announced yet.) Nope, right now the focus is on what’s happening in World Showcase Lagoon, where some mysterious poles have turned up!
It seems like it was only yesterday when the highly CONTROVERSIAL Harmonious barges were removed from World Showcase Lagoon (much to the joy and excitement of many Disney fans who quite literally hated how these barges blocked the view across the lagoon and how they looked during the day).
But then we started seeing some mysterious NEW structures being added to World Showcase Lagoon. Little by little, it seems like more things have been added to the area.
Well, recently, we’ve noticed that some cranes were working on World Showcase Lagoon, and um…well, we don’t know how to tell you this, but it looks like even MORE structures could be added to this body of water.
So what exactly are these new structures for? Well, Disney hasn’t made explicit announcements, but we do know that EPCOT is getting ready to debut a brand NEW nighttime show in honor of the 100th Anniversary in 2023. Disney hasn’t explicitly confirmed whether these new structures will be used for that (though it may seem likely).

Bioreconstruct has also posted a photo via Twitter showing the construction of what appear to be barges for the new fireworks show (reportedly).

The Harmonious barges, on the other hand, sat in World Showcase Lagoon ALL DAY LONG (obstructing the view) and they never quite utilized their daytime fountain look which was meant to give them a better appearance.
So, we expect some fans could be quite concerned (after having just said “goodbye” to the Harmonious barges) about the potential appearance of more structures in World Showcase Lagoon that could once again obstruct the view across the water and become an eyesore.
But, on the other hand, some fans could be VERY excited about what these new structures could mean and how they could contribute to the new show.
We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on these structures to see what gets added to World Showcase Lagoon, and we’re also looking out for more news about that new nighttime show.

What do you think about these new structures being added to World Showcase Lagoon? Let us know in the comments!
Marcus says
The expectation is the new show elements will be like Fantasmic! and World of Color where the elements are underwater during the day.
Lyn says
Do patrons think the characters walk on water? There needs to be something there to support whatever show is put on.
Dulcie says
I hate the idea of anything big and ugly sitting there all day, but more importantly I want all the stops back for the Ferries from World Showcase to Future World back! That is a much needed mode of transportation to save my aching back when the day has worn on and I need to get from one place to the other for a show or attraction.
Poor Gail says
Meh. I wish they’d go back to plain old ordinary fireworks shows. With projections, I can rarely tell what I’m supposed to be looking at anyway. At the Magic Kingdom I watch the fireworks and ignore the castle. And I haven’t enjoyed any Epcot show except for Epcot Forever. (Veggie veggie fruit fruit!)
