We’ll have to say this: Salt & Straw in Disney Springs has a special way of coming up with VERY creative ice cream flavors.
There was that time that we ate Salt & Straw’s BUG ice cream. The Goat Cheese Habanero Ice Cream was also an interesting twist. We even ate Deviled Egg Ice Cream. But this month’s Salt & Straw flavors have us wondering exactly just WHERE these ideas for ice cream flavors are coming from.
So let’s just start with what might be the most…interesting…flavor Salt & Straw has released yet. This month is the Picnic Series, and the star of that series is Chocolate Potato Salad. Yep, chocolate potato salad ice cream. It’s a spiced mustard ice cream seasoned with paprika, celery seed, and dill, plus potato chip cookies and a ripple of chocolate fudge. Because why not?
This flavor makes the rest of the flavors seem rather plain in comparison. However, you will also be able to get Pink Rosé & Watermelon Sorbet, a returning flavor made with a ripe watermelon and rosé punch drizzled with house-made raspberry rosé jam.
Also returning is the Baked Brie & Fig Cheesecake, made with a whipped brie cheesecake baked onto a candied Ritz cracker crust, with dark ribbons of thick fig jam mixed into salted sweet cream ice cream.
The Cinnamon Fried Chicken is also coming back for this series. It’s made with torn fresh croissants deep-fried with chicken fat and then churned into salted vanilla ice cream with a touch of cinnamon, honey, and spices.
The final flavor of the month is also back again. You’ll be able to grab the Sour Cherry Pie, which is made with a scoop of cherry pie (with cherries hand-candied with amaretto) with chunks of almond flour pie crust in a salted vanilla ice cream.
Like we said, most of these flavors are returning, and you can read our reviews of those here. However, the Chocolate Potato Salad is a new flavor, and dare we say, we’re intrigued. These flavors will be available throughout August.
