There are many things in Disney World that have come and gone over the years.
Some of them we really miss, while others we don’t think about often. However, we haven’t seen a huge closure super recently, but that’s about to change in less than 2 months because Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser is about to close.
Disney World introduced the Star Wars Hotel, aka the Galactic Starcruiser on March 1st, 2022. This is a 2-day, 2-night fully immersive experience that is really better compared to a cruise than a hotel. The whole experience and story (in which you can choose to be as immersed as you’d like to be) take place inside the hotel, with the exception of a day outing to Batuu in Hollywood Studios.
However, after just over a year of being in operation, Disney announced in May 2023 that the popular attraction would be closing. Its final voyage is September 28th-30th, 2023, and then it will be closed permanently.
While we don’t yet know what this building will become, Disney executives have shared what went wrong with the hotel, and most of it boils down to cost. The hotel cost THOUSANDS for one family to experience, and many people just couldn’t justify that cost. However, the hotel itself also costs an immense amount to run, thanks to all the amazing live entertainment that made the experience what it was.
While we’re sad to see the Galactic Starcruiser go, we’re not totally surprised that it wasn’t sustainable. While the final reservations did sell out, the price was just too high for many families, meaning that there was a much smaller group of people who were able to afford this experience, and since Disney couldn’t afford to lower the price, here we are.
So if you’ve got a reservation for the last few voyages, be sure to take it all in. If you want to experience it all virtually, we’ve got a whole video about our experience you can check out instead! And as always, be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news.

I never really considered it in the list of “resorts”. It’s like a ride (experience) that lasts for 2 nights and the individual lightning lane charge is uber expensive. The cost of the experience was never even a blip on my radar after I saw how ugly the outside was. It had no appearance of being a “star cruiser”, just a big box with an expensive price tag. Now if it had looked like the millennium falcon or something that could possibly be in outer space, then maybe take a look at it. I think this is another case of the imagineers being sent home the the interns being allowed to take over.

Hopefully Disney learned a lesson. The magic they create should accessible to ALL, not just those deep pockets…..next they need to reevaluate their hotel prices…….

Subject: Concerns Regarding Recent Hotel Closure
Dear Disney Team,
I am writing to express my thoughts and concerns about the recent closure of the Star Wars Hotel that was established only a couple of years ago. As a long-time fan and supporter of Disney, I have always admired the company’s dedication to providing magical experiences to its guests.
It was disheartening to learn that such a significant investment, both financially and emotionally, has been halted in such a short period. I understand that business decisions are complex and are often made after careful consideration of various factors. However, the closure of a newly opened hotel raises questions about the direction Disney is taking in terms of long-term planning and commitment to providing unforgettable experiences to its patrons.
Many of us have cherished memories associated with Disney properties, and the recent events have led some of us to question the company’s focus on sustaining the magic that has endeared Disney to millions around the world.
I genuinely believe that constructive feedback is crucial for any organization to continue evolving and delivering exceptional value to its customers. While the decision to close the hotel might be irreversible, I hope that Disney will take into account the sentiments of its loyal fan base as it moves forward.
Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. I look forward to your response.
Warm regards,
Patty Gur

Add a pool and make it a high priced value resort like AOA.
I don’t understand why it needs to be abandoned.
Throw pass holder, Florida Resident, DVC and whatever else discounts in there and it will do fine. Disney fans love immersion and heavy theming. They don’t have to pay characters to help with that. It’s already themed.
