Going to Disney World on holidays and holiday weekends can be a lot of fun.
Sure, it’s great to be in Magic Kingdom on Halloween, especially if you have tickets to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. The holiday season is also extra magical. But even long weekends like Labor Day weekend could be fun, too, although it could also be busy. However, if you ARE going to Disney World over Labor Day weekend, here’s what you should NOT do.
You should not fly to Orlando on certain days around Labor Day weekend. According to The Orlando Sentinel and NerdWallet, some days at Orlando International Airport are going to be extremely busy. More people are flying now than ever, and recent crowds at the airport have broken records.
Most people who use Labor Day as a long weekend fly out on Friday, spend two days on vacation, and come home on Monday. Those are expected to be the busiest days for Labor Day travel. So the most crowded day at the airport is generally the Friday before Labor Day, followed by the Thursday before, and Labor Day Monday). Note that these days also typically have more expensive flights, too.
Here’s how it breaks down from most crowded to least crowded.
- Friday before Labor Day
- Thursday before
- Labor Day Monday
- Sunday after
- Friday after
- Monday after
- Monday before
- Thursday after
- Tuesday after
- Wednesday before
- Sunday before
- Saturday before
- Wednesday after
- Tuesday before
- Saturday after (least crowded)
So when are the BEST days to fly for Labor Day weekend to avoid crowds and higher flight prices? Try to leave a little earlier for your trip, say on the Tuesday or Wednesday before Labor Day weekend. However, the Saturday of that weekend also tends to be a better time to fly. If you want to avoid crowds and higher flight prices to come home, aim for the Sunday of that weekend.
So if you’re planning on visiting Disney World that weekend, you might want to think a little differently from everyone else if you want to avoid crowded airports and higher flight prices. If you can’t help flying on the busiest days, though, you can save yourself a lot of trouble by using our best tips for flying through Orlando International Airport. Stay tuned to DFB for more!
