When you’re in Disney World, it’s important to plan for the unexpected.
Transportation challenges can arise, weather can impact your experience, and rides can shut down without notice. Sometimes, when rides go down for technical difficulties, they can be back up and running in no time. Unfortunately, sometimes the problem isn’t quite so simple. Today, one of the most popular rides in Disney’s Hollywood Studios was having some unique challenges that prevented visitors from getting to ride.
Earlier today, Tower of Terror was experiencing some “minor technical difficulties.” Two of the shafts were not operating, but fortunately, guests who were in line were still able to get on the ride using the two remaining shafts that were functional, but the wait time started to climb.
However, since the ride was only operating at half-capacity, the Cast Members closed the queue because the line was getting too long! Even those with Lightning Lanes were turned away. This is pretty unusual. We’ve seen Tower of Terror operate at half-capacity in the past, and Cast Members don’t generally shut down the line or turn away guests with Lightning Lanes.
In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tower of Terror is SCARY this morning! Half the ride is down and the Lightning Lane got SO out of control, that cast members had to turn away LL reservations (those guests were given new ones). 🫣 pic.twitter.com/BfH8GnWrfM

Guests who had had Lightning Lanes to this attraction were given multi-experience passes that could be used at a different time for a ride of their choice, with a few exceptions.
It’s important to be prepared for situations like this when you’re in Disney World. If there is a ride that’s an absolute must for you, you might want to ride it first thing in the morning just in case it breaks down and the problem isn’t solved by the end of the day! And, you always have the option to purchase Genie+ to give yourself some more breathing room in your schedule in case things don’t go according to plan.
