Since the reopening of Trail’s End Restaurant, it’s had us thinking… a lot.
We know there are so many places to get good food around Disney World and that you really want to make sure you’re getting the best value for your money (and a full belly). So how did a standard Disney World side item here compare to other places we’ve seen it?
Trail’s End Restaurant has reopened at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and there’s been a lot that has changed. The entire restaurant is quick-service with a few grab-and-go options instead of a sit-down table service experience.
On a recent trip out to “the fort,” we stopped into Trail’s End Restaurant to try out their menu and see what if anything had changed with the food. What we were really interested in, though, was trying out their Mac ‘n Cheese.
If you’ve had macaroni and cheese at Trail’s End before you might have felt it was fairly similar to what was served at P&J’s Southern Takeout (the former quick-service option here). This version is standard macaroni shells with creamy cheese. We appreciated that the cheese that encased the macaroni wasn’t a soupy cheese sauce but a bit thicker American cheese.
After a few minutes of sitting, the cheese started sticking together and made it harder to get spoonfuls out of the container it was served in. This didn’t surprise us too much though because this is pretty common for any cheesy substance that’s started to get cold after a bit. So how did this one compare to some of the other mac ‘n cheese offerings served around Disney World?
Well, this one is pretty “run of the mill” mac ‘n cheese. it’s not bad, it’s just not memorable either. We think we’ve had better mac ‘n cheese served to us at locations like Gasparilla Island Grill.
… and who could forget the Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Pulled Pork at Disney’s Animal Kingdom from Eight Spoon Cafe?
The mac ‘n cheese we had on this experience at Trail’s End did hit the spot for cheesy flavor but we feel like if you’re really needing a top-notch experience of cheesy goodness, your money may be better spent at a few other locations to get the best bang for your buck.
