We’re going to just tell you right off the bat that we are HUGE fans of Pixar.
That means we were SO excited when Elemental released in theaters. We bought those AWESOME Elemental Ears. We ate some very cool (and hot) Elemental-themed snacks. We even checked out the new Elemental Happy Meal Toys (hey, we’re adults, and we can do what we want!). Although the movie didn’t seem to be doing great at the box office early on, it’s taking the global box office by storm.
Almost three months after its initial movie premiere, Elemental has scored $478 million worldwide, according to Collider. This means it’s made more than what projections predicted, putting it in 17th place of all-time Pixar releases.
This comes after Elemental had one of the worst opening weekends in Pixar history, but it’s bounced back in a BIG way, making $153 million in the U.S. and $325 million overseas. Disney premiered the film at the Cannes Film Festival, suggesting the company had high hopes for it all along.
Get this, though. Elemental has now outperformed two VERY popular Pixar movies: Cars (which made $461 million) and Toy Story (which made $356 million). Yep, Pixar’s new film has overpassed Cars! Of course, it’s still behind Pixar’s biggest hit, Incredibles 2, which pulled in a whopping $1.2 BILLION per Collider.
Elemental arrived on digital services for purchase on August 15th and will get a physical release on 4kUHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 26th, 2023. Disney has not yet announced when the film will premiere on Disney+, but we’ll let you know when the company shares more news.

Unfortunately your math doesn’t add up. Toy Story was made in 1995 and Cars in 2006. If you actually figure out what that would be today, Elemental doesn’t come close. 🤷🏼♂️

Good to hear Elemental doing well, but in comparing to Toy Story, are the dollars adjusted for inflation?
Thanks
