It’s time to say “Au revoir” to Soarin’ Around the World!
During the Destination D23 event at Disney World, we got to hear all about EPCOT and the design and ideas behind the transformation of the park during the EPCOT: Always in a State of Becoming panel. But in the middle of the panel, Disney dropped some EXCITING news!
Starting on September 22nd, guests will be able to check out an OLD EPCOT attraction. Soarin’ Over California is returning for a limited time!
Get ready to smell the oranges again! Disney didn’t share exactly how long this version of EPCOT will stick around, but we do know that this is a limited-time change, so make your way over to The Land Pavilion as soon as possible for a little EPCOT throwback.
We have a feeling this is going to be a POPULAR change!

I really, really, really want to be excited by this but the last time they did a limited run of Soarin over California at DCA we smelled roses in the Orange grove scene. It’s like the smells stayed the same as Soarin over the world but just the video changed. Super disappointing!
Dana says
We were so sad when EPCOT changed to Soarin over the world.
We LOVE Soarin over California!!!
Wish we could make a special trip down during the limited time showing!!
The California one is THE BEST!!!!
Wes says
Hopefully this will usher in a 3rd new version of Soarin!
There is so much they could do with this wonderful attraction If they were to do a new version every year or 2! And it would be great if they keep the fragrances fresh and properly synchronized to the movie
Tim says
Too bad it’s just for a limited time. Disney hates to admit they made a mistake, so it won’t come back permanently. Why not always have one if the 3 theaters be the California one and let people choose. If the line for the California one gets significantly longer, then dedicate 2 theaters to California. That way Disney can keep everyone happy, including themselves
Joe says
Sorry, but the around the world version is the best for many of us. We area passholders will try to make it before the change. We’ll be glad to see the old one again, but will be waiting for the return of the around the world version.
Sharon B. says
I wish we could petition them to keep the original soaring it was so much better. The CGI in the new one is awful! I miss smelling the pine trees and the orange groves.
Tammy Campbell says
This is so exciting! I hope it’s still there for our November trip. Soarin over California is so much better!
Rob says
I’d like to see Soarin’ over Florida along with other parts of the world were there are Disney Parks.
Jack says
They should alternate between the two videos. Same for Canada and France videos. I like the old videos better.
Catherine L Fraser -Dery says
60 yrs old and first trip to Disney World and was so looking forward to Soaring around the world. Now, I get California? I personally don’t want to fly over California or visit it honestly. Guess that is another ride I won’t be going on afterall. ~
D Wade says
I like the current version, if they could get the leaning out of the video which of course appears if you are not sitting exactly front/center. CA should stay in CA – OR combine both of them, it is a short ‘ride’, let’s make it longer and more appealing to everyone by combining both videos.
Randi Briggs says
We go to Disneyland each time they bring back Soarin over California. Love that one so much more!
Don Andrews says
Soaring over California is 10 times better than soaring over the world.
Robin says
I personally don’t like the Soarin around California; I much rather keep the one they have or have them update a new one. I like the exotic places and such, I can travel to California and see it for myself (which I’ve done)
Ryan says
Awful, the world version is a million times better than California.
Connie says
WDW should keep Soarin’ over California, it’s so much better than Soarin’ Over the world. Wish it would;d have been changed when we were there the first week not August!
Beth says
Do you know if Disney is going to change the end of Soarin’, when they show Epcot and all the old buildings and fountain, that they just demolished with the construction, right before the ending firework scene??
Alexandra says
Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion but my feeling on the current version (World) is that it feels cheap with the cgi and gives one vertigo at the Eiffel Tower scene (mainly if not in the center (b) seating. I warmly welcome “The old” Soarin’ back. Even if short-lived.
Tammy Campbell says
The problem with the new one is too much CGI and the transitions are too quick. I would rather see less scenes and spend more time on each. Plus it just doesn’t have the magic of the CA version. I’m all for a new version but make it more like CA and less like World.
